We always have a list when we go shopping, and what I do is check out the prices of the stuff I want at Asda and Tesco so I know roughly how much it is going to be (allowing for stuff being out of stock in the store), and where I can get the cheapest stuff from.
It works for me.

pap, the way you have been feeling is completely normal but it will get better.
You will learn to save and shop well and maybe even enjoy it. I still spend wisely and it helps that my family dont mind the cheaper brands.
Hubby's IVA ended over a year ago but we still budget well and i save the rest.
