I agree Sky seem very reluctant to give deals to long term customers, as a loyal customer for many years they did not bat an eyelid when I informed them that I was taking my custom elsewhere.
I also tried quite a few times over the years to get the deals that they were offering to new customers but to no avail.
They have obviously been biding their time, waiting for my Virgin contract to expire before they offer the deal to return to them, or they are hoping that I will find my Virgin package inferior to their own.
Well unfortunately for Sky, Virgin media has worked out to be a superior service for me and a fair bit cheaper, and I will not be returning to them for the foreseeable future unless they are willing to let me have it for free.
Whilst I have had my problems with BT and they're not the best, the Indian call centres have tried their best and usually sorted us out and when it works it's fine.
I'm still thinking about changing, it's the hassle of doing everything that stops me.
If I stay with BT though I'll make sure I negotiate a good deal!

It's not so much that as having to change email addresses and I'd also have to sort out the phone as we have broadband talk and a different phone number so it does make it a little more complicated.

I would think you BT email address would stay open as my virgin one still is and I just import them straight into my outlook inbox. If you're happy stick with them, I knew I couldn't stay with virgin, my connection was forever dipping in and out etc., x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I used to be with AOL and I kept the address open from that, but I just go in there every so often and clear out the rubbish.
I prefer to use the one for the ISP I am using.

Oddly, I never watch Virgin channels. It's Sky all the way for TV, and when BT works, I can't fault it.

I've never read any good comments about Virgin customer service. I used to work for them when they were Telewest and the training was almost non existent - my training involved sitting in a room while the 'trainer' read the manual to us!
I also don't think it's possible to take them seriously until they actually offer digital coverage across the country.
If anyone is thinking of switching to Virgin Media, don't forget to go via Quidco.com - VM always offer high rates of cashback (currently £130 if you take out a new cable package!)
As a Virgin Media customer myself I can confirm that the customer service can be appalling, but twice in the past when I've had real difficulties I've emailed the CEO (Neil Berkett) and my problem has been resolved in hours.
For me, the real advantage to being with Virgin is the fact that you don't need a phone line to receive the TV/Broadband service in a cabled area, so save paying line rental every month. I don't recieve the TV service, but have a 10MB broadband package for £18 p/m (retention deal) and run 2 VOIP phone lines through it as well as normal internet with no problems. Previously with BT I was paying at least £40 p/m just for phone lines/calls, + another £17 p/m for broadband, now my broadband and the 2 VOIP lines + calls probably cost about £22 p/m in total.
We're just in the process of switching contents and building insurance with no problem at all.
