hi
It seems that since April i have been paying a little too much tax and having been paid today i have an extra £270 which i assume would be classed as a tax rebate even though it is in my wages. Is this a windfall??
I have heard that if a windfall is under £500 then you may be allowed to keep it. I only ask after sorting 2 childrens shoes and uniforms, I a new suit for work and my wife some new work clothes.
Any advice greatly appreciated as always

Check what it says in your proposal/chairmans report. You could also just have a word with your IP to run it by them to make sure you can keep it.

Just had a look through the proposal and the chairmans report and cannot see anything at all realting to tax rebate/windfall. The only relation to this a mention of the 10%/50%/50% for overtime bonus or commision payment. Ihave a letter though stating "that in the event of receiving redundancy, inheritance, gaming or lottery winnings then I will declare any such sums to the IP" no mentions on minimal amounts etc.

Give your IP a ring tomorrow just to check - you don't want to b landed with a surprise bill when it comes to your annual review.

I have no problem with with work clothes as I wear a uniform, but can understand that people need to fund suits and dry cleaning for work.

Tax rebates should not be treated as windfalls, as if you have overpaid in earlier months it has to be right to have that refunded back to you - especially if you struggled to make the IVA contributions due to paying too much tax!
I have just spoken to CCCSVA re this couldnt speak with the IP, just got through to the case supervisor. She informed me that she didnt know whether this would be classed as a windfall, and then said cannot get me an answer until next tuesday!! After a bit of moaning from me she is now trying to get me an answer for tomorrow. Perhaps Iam a bit niave to think that i would get ananswer today

You may get a quicker answer than relying on a case worker.
