The first commercial shown on TV in Britain was for Gibbs S R Toothpaste.
Viewers saw a tube of toothpaste embedded in a block of ice ... "It's tingling fresh. It's fresh as ice. It's Gibbs SR toothpaste."

Do you know what year that would have been Ray?

Skip, I loved that advert, from memory it was something to do with if he didn't drink his milk, then he would only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley and then his mate saying who are they? and the lad saying exactly!![:D]

I loved that R Whites lemonade too, used to sing along to it[:I]

I'll pass on the Strand one, but I do remember Gibbs SR toothpaste.

I remember the one for Hoffmeister Beer - Follow the bear.

Ansells Bittermen - anyone remember that?

Nimble - She flies like a bird?

The Oxo adverts and the Bisto Kids (hubby is prompting me here!)

John Smith ads with Peter Kay - they were so funny!

I loved the John Smiths adverts - top bombing!

Do you remember the John Smith's adverts with the ladybirds? My uncle worked for Courage at the time and apparently the adverts were banned because people complained about the ladybirds doing inappropriate things!

I loved the one with the wardrobe monsters! And the wedding reception one as well.

I can't say as I remember the ones with the ladybirds though.

I'm watching it as well.

I can remember getting a tub of Ajax in the school toilets and pretending to do the Shake and Vac advert!
