Hi,
Keep your head during this time as it can get quite stressful, but it does calm down. I remember one of our creditors arguing with me on the phone just after our IVA was approved saying 'we dont recognise an IVA! ..you have to make a payment to us!!?' I can laugh now, but at the time I found it all very stressful. Like the others have said most of these people are in call centres and commission based and are obviously ill educated to the law. Try not to stress, I would not part with any of your money to them during this phase of the process.just ride it out. Ignore the calls or give them your IP details which is what we were advised but we found it best to not engage in conversation with them at all which was less stressful. Good luck.
An IVA is a long hard road but valuable lessons have been learnt along the way. Now looking forward to enjoying a debt free future!
I answered the calls and let them know that I was in the process of setting up an iva, then when it was approved, gave them my reference number. They put a hold on the calls got 40 days and have been very good at not hassling me - maybe depends who your creditors are though

mine are the major lenders, nationwide, Barclays mainly. I may answer and explain to them and see what they say they can do. I cant pay anything though and don't think Im going to. Would rather put the money to one side, the little bit I can.
The way I dealt with calls ( of which there were surprisingly few ) depended upon my mood at the time.
If I was busy I refused to answer the security questions on the basis that I had no proof that who I was speaking to was legitimate. OK, I admit these calls lasted much longer then they could have done had I been co-operative!)
If I was bored I let them ramble on. just umming and aahing now and again .... finally they would ask for a payment and I would just say "No", then tell them about the IVA. Many didn't know what an IVA was and I was perversely pleased at wasting their time too.
The chap from the AA was very nice, so I spoke to him and told him about the IVA right away he wished me luck and invited me to phone anytime if I had any questions or needed help.
And I fell in love with a young lady with an Indian accent who called a few times ( I miss her !!!! )
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
Eeeeh Foggy, that did make me chuckle. I needed that. Thanks Ruthlyn, at the min its nationwide and Barclays that have contacted me. I still haven't answered. I speak with IP on Wednesday and then Im hoping the meeting of creditors will be the next step. I may answer the calls after Wednesday! Still sooooo nervous but cant keep going as I am. Last week of kids holiday and normally I would be relying on credit but haven't used them since I signed with VB
