The cost of working overtime

I am fortunate in that I am able to work overtime. The problem is that to do the overtime I often (but not always) have to pay for a baby sitter. So the 50/50 split is more 60/40 (not in my favour!)To give you an idea: If I were to work one of my days off I would get £100 in my hand (working from 7am till 7pm) So that would be £50 to me and £50 into my IVA. If my husband is working thenIhaveto pay a sitter £20. My travel is £5. Result £25 to me for being away from home for around 13 hours. I try to work overtime when my husband is at home but I would say 50% of the time he too is at work. Our IP will be putting together our IVA proposal in the next 2 weeks do you think it is reasonable to ask our creditors to split sitter/travel costs accrued for working extra?

I am hoping that you will be able to split sitter/travel costs with your creditors. Being 13 hours away from home and getting £25 does not sound right.

I am not an expert Linda, but surely any benefit from overtime needs to be calculated after additional expenses are taken off (ie extra travel and babysitting)
We have to pay extra childcare if hubby is working away from home and I have to meet work committments in the evenings(part of my job, not overtime) and this has been put forward as part of our proposal.

Hi Linda

Any expenses which relate to your overtime earnings, should be deducted before the 50/50 split occurs, but you will need to tell your IP about these so make sure you keep records of what you are spending.

That is reassuring. £100 less £25 =£75 50/50 = £37.50. Thats a bit better than £25. I will keep a record of my O/T costs. Thank you for the advice
