[:(]..I have to go to the dentist on tuesday for my six monthly check, and dreading it, just hope I don't need to have any work done[:(]..me and hubby used to go together but with the expense have decided to go on separate months so it's his turn next month, hee hee [:D]..with just the check up, it costs us £21 and then if we have to see the dental nurse,it's another £25 [:0]...must admit though, more afraid of her as she always hurts when she's digging around in your mouth and she always insists on chatting while you can't answer her back cos you've got her scraping away at your teeth[:(!]

[:0]..Wish ours was only that amount,PD...Unfortunately,we weren't able to get into a NHS dentist so have had to pay privately...a couple of years back, hubby needed a lot of work doing and of course back then, the c/card would pay for it so we didn't really worry but now of course, we do worry about paying for things!!..think next time, we need any work doing, the pliers may have to come out instead[:(][:D]

Ours is £17 on the NHS and we only have them every 12 months (that's how our dentist works),

What I am dreading is if my crowns fall out. I've had them 20 years now and they are at the front so I will have to get something done and that will cost about £200!

I hope they stay put for at least the next 4 years!

Let's hope they stay put for you Jan,until then [:)]

I hadn't realised that the NHS sometimes suggest every twelve months, we may start doing that as well as it would save us a lot of money that we don't have to do it like that as well.[;)]

I don't envy you DM...i hate going to the dentist! In fact if i'm honest i'm terrified of them[:I] I really do need to make the effort to go for a check up though, as i have veneers on some of my teeth - and a bit like Jan i'm dreading them falling off or wearing away as they aren't cheap to replace! I can't stand needles, and the thought of visiting the hygienist for the dreaded scale & polish makes me feel rather queasy[xx(]...anyway, hope you get on okay DM[:)]xx..

PD - a few months ago I ate a toffee at work - and fetch out half of a filling together with part of the tooth!

Fortunately the remainder of the filling is still there and it doesn't hurt so the dentist left well alone!

The dentist doesn't really bother me, especially now I've changed to a much more gentle dentist! I'm lucky that I could change to an NHS dentist as well.

I've got 2 crowns, both private ones that cost £285 each, and both paid for on plastic. I'm dreading them falling out as I refuse to have NHS crowns as they are silver rather than white and although they aren't at the front of my mouth you can see them when I smile!

Oh Julie I'm with you on the dentist score. I'm petrified too, I do go and have my 6 monthly checks but if I have to have any work done I'm sedated! I know such a wimp but just the thought is not nice x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

WARNING!!! The following is not for people with a nervous disposition and a phobia about dentists!!!

The worst pain I ever suffered at the dentist was when a nerve died in a front tooth. I ended up going to the dental hospital in Birmingham as it was free at the time. He drilled the tooth and it took three injections in the gum, and one inside the tooth and it still didn't numb the pain! I was whimpering in the chair, my knuckles were white, and as he attempted to remove the nerve with something resembling a crochet hook, I was rising up out of the chair following the dentist as he was pulling upwards!

It's made me go cold just remembering it!

Ouch Jan!

I had to have a filling a few ago and the dentist couldn't numb the tooth - I've nver known pain like it. The side of my face was numb, but not the tooth she was working on! The filling didn't work and I needed root canal treatment and she had the same problem again, and to add insult to injury it became infected!

Ouch! You're all making me cringe! I went to the dentist when I thought a little bit of filling had come out and found out that two whole fillings had come out! I went back to have the fillings replaced and the dentist asked if I wanted pain relief. I thought back to when I was a kid and had the original fillings and I couldn't remember having injections so said no!Then she started drilling away and, oh my god! I was gripping on to that chair for dear life! Hubby was p*****g himself laughing in the corner! I will be having pain relief in future!

I had to have a tooth "prepped" for a filling - I was such a baby, halfway through I asked to use the loo and quickly made a run for it. Had a temp filling for 7 years [:I][:I]

When I had my wisdom tooth extracted lasy year, I cried and was sick all the way through [:I][:I]
