What an inspiring thread. Had to go back and check the dates half way through reading all the posts. I know we have now finished our IVA, but oh how I wish I had known about this forum at the start rather than at the end. It truly is an invaluable forum.

So here we are at the Jetson school of how not to keep in touch!! However, I wanted to share and update. We are now heading for completion of our 5th year (of 6th). We've managed and we're getting there. This year we've been told we do not need to re-mortgage, and that if we maintain payments as we have done to the end of our 6th year we will complete.

Such a long time, but really feel we are over the hill now (in every sense!!). Anyone reading my ramblings - please know that while it seems like forever it really isn't. Yes its tough (bloomin' hard at times), but you will get there.

We've continued to (almost) enjoy the limited budget, and continue the pleasures of shopping around. Better deals on meat, fruit and veg are to be had with local retailers and markets, and they taste better too. No way would I go back to buying meat and fruit at the supermarket!! And we've acquired an allotment so plenty of veg, and good cheap fun into the bargain!

15 months to go, so most of our focus is on "soon". We've thought of holidays we will take, new clothes to buy (new clothes - remember them?) and fun to be had. Finding it hard to imagine what we will do being £800+ a month better off again. Whatever we do it will be within our means, and without the use of any credit cards.

All the best everyone. Times are hard all round at the moment, but stay strong.

Blimey, I'm hopeless on messageboards!

We did it!!
On Friday 2nd January 2015 we made our final payment!! I had a half day from work (boss still in generous Christmas mood) so spent the afternoon home alone and mostly sobbing - I have never experienced such a sense of relief and physically felt the tension leaving my body, and it just all came out.

We'd always planned to crack open a bottle, and even thought of going back to the layby outside work where we'd originally discussed what to do 6 years ago, but it was a bit cold and wet and I reckon sitting in the gutter drinking was maybe not a good look!!

Stay strong and stand tall everyone. If we can achieve what we've done, then you can too!

Thanks to everyone over the years for this board. I might not have posted much, but I've read an awful lot, and at times just being here has helped so much.

Onwards and upwards!
