Hi Laura and welcome to the forum

You can still get grants and student loans whilst at university to support your further education, but you will need to declare that you are in an IVA as part of the application, and also obtain your supervisor's permission to take out additional borrowings,

if work became to much with being at university could i finish work and pay my iva payments through my grants/loans?

If you had to cut your hours at work would this affect your ability to make your IVA payments? If so then this answers your question really. It would not be appropriate for you to use public money awarded to you to fund your education, on repayments towards old debts.
