Hi I hope you can help us, my brother in law (in the RAF) is over forty thousand pounds in debt with credit cards etc and has no way of getting out of this mess, what is the best course of action to help him. he has started an iva with a company called spectrum that has charged him £1500 and then passed him on to a company called R3 that now seems to want to charge him £2800 and so far do not seem to have contacted any of his creditors. what is the best course of action. please help us.

Hi geoff and welcome to the forum

If your brother in law is not happy with the service he is currently receiving, then suggest he gets a second opinion before he parts with any more money. He should not need to pay anything further until an IVA is in place.

I have an article on my blog which gives tips about choosing an advisor, so he may like to have a read of that before proceeding further. As he is in HM Armed Forces, do ensure that whoever he chooses has experience of dealing with such cases, and understands that a greater degree of flexibility is required as a result of changing postings and operational tours.
