Hi!
I have just found out that in my new job I actually get to keep all my credit card tips, which will be paid monthly with my wages. (I work in a hotel restaurant) As this will vary from month to month I was wondering how to go about calculating how much should go towards my iva payment, as some months they may be very good and some months there may be not so much. I have already sent a couple of wage slips off to my IP which show these as they are doing our review after moving house and starting new jobs and I'm waiting for them to get back to me. I just don't want to end up out of pocket one month as these tips are not garuanteed.
Jo
I could be wrong, but you may find that it would be treated as a bonus payment, and would be subject to the 10& then 50/50 rule.
One of the other experts will be able to confirm (or otherwise!) this.

Hi Kallis, thanks for the reply, I didn't think of this! Although my agreement is actually that I get to keep 40% and the creditors get 60%. I was a little unlucky!!
Hey jojo, I agree with Jan, I'm sure that is how they will treat it so you do get to keep some of them. I used to love tips, never took them in my restaurant, they were for the waitresses, but when I was a waitress years ago, I would make lots, it's a wonder how I ever got into the mess I'm in now! Hey ho, never mind. X

Hi Viki, yes tips are great! Most of them I get are cash. It's unusual to actually get to keep my credit card ones though!! In my last 15 years of working in restaurants this is the first time!! You must have been a nice manager! I do find though that tips never seem to last long!! I would allways find something to spend them on! I actually got offered a job recently where they wanted to pay me £4 an hour and then make up the rest with the 10% service charge they put on all tables!! I didn't accept!!
I don't think they're allowed to do that anymore are they jojo? I always thought it was an appalling practise.

I think only this year a campaign was launched to close the loophole that allows them to top up to minimum wage using a service charge. Unfortunatly they can still keep any tips put on a card. Most places I've worked at used the excuse that it was put back into the business!
I always took the cash out of the till for the girls' tips if someone paid by card, it doesn't affect the till and it's a load of rubbish that manager's can't do it, although lots of them do, cheek of it. Good for you jo, keep smiling and earn those tips! [:X]X
They can't pay you £4 an hour unless they can gaurantee the 10% will equal at least the minimum wage. Which it probably would but i still don't think they can do it as your hourly rate is below the min. The cheek. Gald you didnt except
There was no way I would accept Steve! I'm not so gullible and knew I was worth more than that!! Unfortunately there are a lot of students etc who don't realise this and just accept it as normal!! I was actually insulted and told them so!
Viki, I really wish I'd had more managers like you!!
