I wouldn't use anything I had to pay a monthly fee for when I didn't have to.

the cashbuilder card is different as you pay £5 a month in fees and they lend you £60 for the year(which you dont actually get in your hand),this loan is reported to the credit reference agencies.

I totally agree Jan,I dont want to pay for anything I dont need to,but finding something else for the credit file is a struggle.

The vanquis card is by provident banking and they are the ones who sent loads of letters offering me loans which I got that hacked off with I started sending silly things back in the prepaid envelopes(toenails,fish,glitter,2 for 1 pizza coupons(out of date!!).

arrrgh that cashbuilder thingy prepaid card is far too complex to work out what the costs are!!!

I dont trust anyone who isnt clear with what things will cost me.

More questions than answers now.

I'll go with Vanquis hopefully when I've finished to aid the building of the credit rating. I hope to be like Skippy and pay off in full every month. x

I won't pay a monthly fee to anything if I can get it free elsewhere!

Hi

I still have my Vanquis card and have had no problems with them at all other than they soon put a stop on your card if you use it more than seven or eight times in one day. Although I now have their Gold card the interest charges are still close to the 40% mark, possibly higher !! However as long as you clear the balance each month it really costs nothing and can be very handy.

The main advantage of a credit card is the safety that it provides, a few years ago I booked flights with Travel City Direct only for them to go into administration, I received a full refund via my Vanquis card

You can check your balance online and they txt you when payment is due. They have also been named credit card of the year three years running by Credit Today magazine.

Regards
Andam Davies

How long have you had yours Andy? Its just they give the impression that if you behave with them you will get a lower APR but that doesnt seem to be the case at all.

Could you get a better rated card now and just havent bothered(if you dont mind me asking)?

Paul, most of us have learned our lesson the hard way and can budget now so does the APR really matter? They could give me 100% APR and it wouldn't make a difference.

I agree Skip and Lesley - make sure you don't go stupid and pay it off every month.

No problem then.
