Hi caraf
My iva was only accepted on 5t November which is why I can empathise so much with how you are feeling and worrying as it is so recent for me also. So far it is going great, not easy as it is scary having no credit cards to hand but scary in a good way as I think so much before I spend money and if I really need the item and have any soare money in my account.
I pay £390 per month on a debt of about £46,000 [:I] which is affordable to me so I am very happy with that.
I was holding my head above water as was working two jobs but I lost my part time job suddenly and had no chance of maintaining all the payments, although if I am 100% honest I was taking more credit to pay for credit I already had for years and it built up to that.

My creditors were [:I][:I]
Hsbc - bank account overdraft and credit card
Barclaycard
Citi Cards
Citi financial personal loan
MBNA
RBS
Intelligent Finance
Amex
John Lewis (HFC)
Morgan Stanley
Capital One

All voted yes, apart from Amex and Capital One. These two did not outright vote no but they wanted a lot of extra a month to approve and the other votes out voted them anyway.
My iva was handled by Melanie and her team who I found to be first class and not a negative word to say about them.

I know you are so worried but I am worried about you as you seem to be worrying so much and I don't want you to make yourself ill.
Everytime you have a negative thought just try and remember that Clearstart would not propose your iva if they did not think it had a very good chance of acceptance as it would be a waste of there time.
Also remember that the vast majority of iva's are accepted by creditors so if you have your best offer in your proposal the odds are in your favour.

As for tips I find that a book that I carry around with me works and I write everything i spend in it so I can account for every penny and also I check my bank account online all the time so I know exactly where I am. I opened a savings account also and any spare money at the end of the month goes into it to save for emergancies.

Please, please, please look after yourself...[:)]
Do your family/partner know of your situation?

Such a long post I know, sorry about that but I really feel for you and so hope you have a succesful result..
Emma xx
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

Hi Caraf

I was like that this time last year, I dreaded the post and so many times I would burst into tears with what they said but please dont worry, all the scary words are in bold and bigger letters, right??? And all you can see when you look at it is COURT, COUNTY COURT JUDGEMENT, SERIOUSLY AFFECT YOUR RATING, with the odd, may, and and the. It does the trick, it scares you, makes you feel bad and you end up having a bad day.

However, you are doing all you can, you cant give them what they dont have, no they do not understand, they want their money and try to scare you into paying it. You are brave enough to face up to your problem but its no easy ride. They make you feel really bad about yourself but do not let them, be proud of what you have done about it, many will still be burying their heads in the sand. Although it wont feel like it you are on your way to a better, more honest future. My house looked like an explosion in a nasty letter factory, I became immune to threats, I changed my phone number so they couldnt keep calling me. You have people on your side, willing to listen and understand only too well what youre going through.

There is an answer to every problem, you just have to hang on in there, it will get better and you will feel better soon, I promise.

Take care of yourself, please.

Hi Caraf, I had a couple of those "postcards" from my creditors too - but no-one ever turned up!! Try not to let it get you down - you are trying to sort it out - so stay positive and have a lovely Christmas with your daughters.

I meant to say that I had a card and noone turned up, it did make me feel really uneasy though, it was quite recent too. I wrote and said that if anyone did come, I wouldnt verbally discuss anything and would ask them to leave or I would call the police.

Sometimes I have had a postcard like, you must call fred blocks immediatly also and a phone number and nothing else.

Hi
You really need to contact your IP,they will be able to reassure you and deal with anything that would possibly compromise your IVA.

Hi
I would have confidence in your IP but keep them informed of all letters etc.
I personally do not feel that a creditor will do this for such a low amount, unless it's Amex or Diners Club

Hi
I pulled this from the Insolvency helpline

A statutory demand gives a person 21 days warning to pay the debt. After that the statutory demand has runs it course and it can followed by a bankruptcy petition.

In the minds of a creditor or a creditor’s solicitor a statutory demand is the legal equivalent of a 'warning shot from a gun'. This is because the average debtor is so scared by 'what may follow' that they usually pay up.

In fact statutory demands are so successful that in 99% of cases following the issue of a statutory demand a bankruptcy petition NEVER is issued.

I believe that it is just a scare tactic and that after the 21 days they will not petition for bankruptcy due to the costs involved.
Your IP does not think that it will happen and I do not think that it will happen

Hi
If your IP OK's this then yes that will be fine, once your IVA is accepted this creditor will form part of your IVA whether they want to or not.
Your IP has the complete info on your case and is in a better place to advise.
It is impossible to give difinitive advice, however my own personal opinion is that it is a scare tactic, but I would be asking my IP for advice as to what to do.If they suggest offering instalments then do that.
When is your meeting?
