The subject of mobile phone contracts comes up here now and again. Not only will you get a better deal with a contract but it will help repair your credit rating. Well I know that not everyone can get a contract but that seems to be about to change with O2. It seems that if you apply for a contract with a phone and our turned down they will give you a sim only deal no matter how bad your credit score was. Now a sim only deal does not give you a phone and its only a month contract (you can cancel at any time) but if you have a phone that you can put a sim card in (unlocked or O2) then it gives you a better option then Pay as you go.
To quote part of the report.
Customers will be able to take SIM-only deals for a minimum of six months, without a deposit to pay. Provided all billing is up to date and on time, they will be able to upgrade to 18-24-month deals with a handset.
If you are already in a contract with O2, you should be ok to upgrade. I upgraded mine 12 months ago, and was told instantly that it was ok, so I assume they just looked at my account and how my payment record was.

OK, i rang o2. As of last Sunday, the sim only deals ARE available even if you fail the credit check but it can only be done in an o2 shop. It can't be done online or by phone.
