Hiya

The last year of mine and my partner's IVA is due to start in May 2010 and we've found out that I'm expecting our first baby in July. Our monthly IVA payment is £352 and we've been offered £2000 by my grandparents but only if we can come to an agreement with our IP to pay off the IVA early. Do you think considering our circumstances and the fact that we will be in our last year shortly that they would accept this as a full and final settlement offer? Many thanks

You will need to demonstrate to your IP, and perhaps then the creditors, that you will no longer be in a position to maintain payments once the baby has arrived. As your partner many not go on maternity leave until June 2010, I assume tht payment could be maintained until then in which case an offer of £2,000 to complete at that time may well be an acceptable solution.

As ever, the best person to discuss this with is your own IP directly.

Congratulations - I am sure if you demonstrate correctly your offer will be accepted - at the end of the day they are not going to want you to fail your IVA having got to this stage - good luck

Thanks everyone, we're getting a bit worried at the moment as we are not able to afford to buy anything for the baby and won't be able to afford to buy everything we need the month before either if we pay off our IVA early. Do you think they would lower our payments prior to paying off the IVA too?

Not that I have done this personally - but sites like Freecycle and e-bay provide a vast arrange of products in very good condition - often new - that might help with your budgeting.
