I know it's been posted here before but I didn't pay much attention then!!! Are there any companies that can offer car finance when you are in your IVA (subject to your IP's approval of course)

My car is beginning to cost us money each month now (new car battery on Monday) sometimes about £100 each month and I'm beginning to think that it might be better to spend that money on the finance for a newer and more reliable car!!!

Can anyone advise?

Can't see any sane IP agreeing to a Bentley LOL
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Hi Andy

I will keep my ear out as my work does give me contact with some car finance companies and another reasonable one is British Credit Trust who will look at adverse credit situations. i applied for car finance before going into an IVA after my accident and had no surplus funds.

Admitedly they are hawkish if anyone misses a payment but are very fair on other matters when you get to a one to one basis.

BCT don't like IVA's - also you can only access them via a broker - if you want a good broker for car finance www.usethis4cars.co.uk - apply via the usechoice4 banner.

Glad Duncton could help.

Took a look at the prices....They don't match any of the cost lines in my proposal, so doubt my IP would look favourably on this option.....will have to carry on with the sticky tape and national breakers services for the increasing number of parts falling off, or forgetting what they are there for!

I have had dealings with Duncton - they are a good company. They usually rely upon good sized deposits (cash or part ex) and fitted trackers to offset the risk posed by poor credit history. Their interest rates are not too bad, either.

Andy mentioned Advantage Finance - along with Welcome Financial Services and First Response Finance these are the main sub prime finance companies in the UK and they may, indeed, offer facilities to people with an IVA. The only thing I would advise is to check very carefully the interest rate and total amount repayable. Whilst these companies price to risk, they seem not to discern between people who have incurred debt and are genuinely trying to find a way to repay and those who incur rent/mortgage and credit arrears as standard practice.

I have worked for two of these companies in the past and am aware of how they underwrite business.

Does anyone know how soon after an IVA you can apply for car credit and succeed.

My car will need replacing after my IVA finishes.

Hi
You will find credit easier to obtain once the six years are up from the start of your initial IVA.
