Yes you can . Governing bodies should reflect the communities that their schools serve and this will therefore include people who have got into debt . However on occasion governors are called to be signatories on school bank accounts. It would be sensible not to offer to do this as you may then have to declare that you have an IVA

Hi. As far as I am aware there is no legal restriction on you being a school governor with an IVA.

I believe the application might ask about bankruptcy -- to which you can honestly answer "no".
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

You will need to read the governing body rules. When I was in an iva I was asked to be a school governor and the rules did not allow it. Best to check it out

Personally I would say yes as my wife is a school governor and has been for 3years. As far as I'm aware you can't be a governor is bankrupt but you can on an iva "this was a criteria we checked with our IP before starting the process"
