Difficult, I know. But can make you feel soooo much better.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still taking everything seriously. But rather than get stressed, I'm now trying to see the funny side of everything.

For the first time today, me and my husband actually laughed about the absurdness of my situation. As the phone calls are now starting, we spent about half an hour thinking up the silliest ways of dealing with them. This ranged from putting the phone in the shed, to putting a silly message on the answerphone. For some reason my plaintive cry of "hunny, please can we change our phone number" while in the shower with shampoo in my eyes was, to my husband, hysterically funny. I know, i know. It takes all sorts.

So anyway, I've now got a standard sentence that will be repeated regardless of what the question is, until they get fed up with me and hang up. I've even considered putting it on tape and just playing it back to them until they give up.

Which basically consists of this:-

When they ask me if I'm going to pay anything, I will firstly ask them what it says in my notes.

When they tell me they've had notice of my DMP, I will then say, nothings changed.

If they continue after that, my constant reply will be, please refer to the notes on my account.

The point is, no matter what's going on, or how aggressive these people get or how often they phone you, try to inject some humour into it. For your own sake. If they are very persistent, try repeating the same thing, but in different accents. Simple, but may keep you amused, while letting them get on with their job.

Laughter is definately the best medicine.

Ditto.

I think our best one was when they rang up and imitated an automaticed voice message system to say we were not accepting incoming calls and they promptly hung up or if they if you are available, ask who wants to know then say no!

I also had to laugh when hubby crashed his car the day before the wedding as I knew he was in one piece and capable of walking up aisle and also because I thought another spanner in the IVA works joy oh joy!

Do you know the nicest thing about this post Johnz?

Remember I told you the other evening, when you were worried about your husband and his reaction to your debts, that men are genereally very reactionary - and when they eventually come dowm from the ceiling they are usually very logical, positive and supportive (apparantly it is either in their genes or is a left brain vs right brain matter!)

Well wasn't I right? That lovely man of yours is now laughing and joking with you, and although there will be good days and bad days you are a team at the end of the day! I am so pleased to be reading your posts this week, and will be following your story with interest in the months to come.

Very best of luck to you both.

I remember being skint...washing machine packed up and the car was making strange noises....i turned it round on its head and decided that ....

even if i had any money i would only spend it....hand washing is better for the environment....and walking is better for your health !!
