hi there, im in the process of setting up an IVA and one of my creditors is Halifax. Ive been trying to get a new bank account and have been accepted by Bank of Scotland. Can I use Bank of Scotland basic account as they are linked to Halifax although Im not sure exactly what that link is. Thanks

I think that Bank of Scotland own the Halifax, or vice versa (sorry that's vague!) and the usual advice is to have a bank account that is not linked to one of your creditors. If you don't mind listing your questions someone will be able to advise you of the bank accounts available.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hello Anto and Welcome to the Forum,

Both you and Skippy are correct, Bank of Scotland do own Halifax this is usually known as HBOS.

Historically I have not heard of Halifax closing bank accounts where the account holder is in an IVA or asking that Bank of Scotland accounts be closed for the same reason.

However in saying this it is possible for Halifax to do so.

Thanks both, think I'll set up camp elsewhere in order to avoid potential issues at some point in the future.

Cheers, Anto [8]
