I might go for it! Hopefully they might see that life experience might count for something!

There used to be a minimum height to join when I was younger, and I remember when I grew to 5'4" I was so happy as it meant I was tall enough!

No minimum height, you can wear specs or contact lenses. Obviously you have to be fit, and I do know they do a fitness test (never did it when I joined - just a chest Xray and a check up at the doc's!) You've got three years to get yourself fit (if you're not already!)

They can only say no, and at least you would know that you had tried.

The glasses thing was something that worried me as I'm short sighted so I'm glad that's not a problem. I'm 5'8" so I made it well past the old minimum height anyway! I'll use the next 3 years to get myself fit - I've already started running and I feel better for it so in another 3 years I should be fine. The only possible problems are I had an operation on my knee 9 years ago, and I've had back problems in the past, both of which are improving now I'm more active.

As long as you are fit and your old problems have gone, you should be ok.

I'll be asking in 3 years if you are still going for it!

I just worry about being the oldest probationer there!

You'd be amazed at how many 'mature' probationers there are these days.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure anyone would ever describe me as mature!

You'd fit in just nicely!

Now there's an idea.

Dave doesn't know I'm still thinking of joining, so if anyone meets him at the next Frugal Friends I'd appreciate it if you didn't mention it - he wouldn't try and stop me and he knows I wanted to join, but I don't think he's over keen on me joining as he'd worry about me! I'll talk to him nearer the time and take it from there.

He is, and I don't want to give him anything to worry about over the next 3 years!
