My uncle is terminally ill and isn't expected to live for much longer. My manager has said that although he won't be able to give me compassionate leave for the funeral they will give me unpaid leave (I don't have enough holiday left). As this will obviously leave me short of money, my partner has told me to reduce the money I give him for the mortgage and bills that month to cover the day's leave and flowers etc.

I have to send my wage slips to my IP each month, so I will have to explain why there is a shortfall. My question is, will they think that if my partner can manage without my money for the month he doesn't actually need it and therefore ask for an increased contribution? This obviously isn't the case, he is just helping me out.

Sorry to ask such a morbid question but this is worrying me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi,

I’m so sorry to hear your bad news.

Your IP should not ask for increased contribution as this is covered under the exceptional circumstances category. My advice to you would be to give them a call and let them know your wage slip will be short of a day and the reason why and I'm sure they will be understanding.

Let me know how you get on.

Kind Regards

Nicola

Hi Skippy

I'm sure your IP will be reasonable, if you explain the circumstances and that this is a one off, they should understand.

Hope this helps

Just to let you know I spoke to my case manager last week and it won't be a problem for me to take unpaid leave, which is just as well really!

Onwards and upwards!!!
