I entered a IVA on Oct 02 and completed early (successfully) in July 05. I tired twice in the last year o upgrade my bank account to include a debit card. I have indicated that I am not interesed in any overdraft arangement but have been declined. Is the reason because the IVA 6 years is not up. please advices.

yon are credit scored for a normal Bank a/c. The IVA have to show settled before lenders wil consider an upgrade.

Hi
I think that even if it is shown as settled you will have a problem, you need wait until it falls off the credit reports, six years from the start of the IVA.

I take it there is the same circumstances with Bankruptcy? ie. Cannot upgrade a basic account to a standard account until the BR drops off?

Out of interest jess, are you doing this online or in branch? Computers act very black & white, while a real person in a branch might be able to over-ride the rejection if you have a good history. (Though i'm no expert!!!)

I have heard that even after BR it can be hard to upgrade your account as a lot of banks will ask if you have ever been bankrupt.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

There is a way around BR. There are banks that still will upgrade especially if BR had been filed a good chunk of time back. If you are willing to settle without an upgrade for a while to show that you have not had any further problems for a certain period of time then there should not be a problem!
