Yeah I think my plan would be to use it and monitor my credit score. As it improves once I can I would get one not linked to high APR's and thus credit problems.

Well following on from the advice on this thread, I decided to take the bull by the horns and see if I would be accepted for a vanquis card - sole purpose to build up credit rating - fully intend to pay what little is put on it every month keeping a nil balance.
I completed the on-line application yesterday. Was in contact with them today after they appeared as a missed call on my mobile and hey-ho I have been successful. Don't know what the limit will be yet, but as I will be paying it off each month (proberbly just use it for petrol so get an idea of how much petrol we get through a month) the amount they set is of little consequence at the minute.
IVA Completed August 2011

Well done to both on your acceptance to Vanquis and I do think it's a good resource to help rebuild our shattered credit ratings, I'll be doing the same/similar when the time is right. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Well done for being accepted. When I first had my card the limit was £250 but it's now been increased to £2250, which I'm proud to say I'm never even tempted by!

Did they ask if you wanted to up the limit or did they just go ahead and increase it?

I'd be scared to have that much credit available to me!!!

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

They just increased it, although I didn't think they were supposed to do that.

TBH £250 was nowhere near enough for my petrol as the way the billing dates fell meant that I always had nearly 2 months on my card. £2250 is a bit high, but I've never got around to phoning them!

£250 is all I would ever need for food. As for petrol my bike doesn't need it and thank god what with fuel prices like they are!

£250 was enough for one month's petrol, but the way the dates worked out January's petrol was billed at the end of January but paid at the end of February when the DD went out. In effect I had 2 months payments on the card most of the time as I obviously had to use the card in February as well.

Didn't ask IP. They confirmed that I had made my final payment and for my part I was done... they just need to carry out the closure procedure. I knew from the posts on the forum that people had obtained the card prior to receiving their certificates, so just went for it. Didn't really expect to get it, but it will be good to start re-building the credit limit.

I agree - it made me feel good in a strange sort of way!
