I have just been awarded the lower rate of mobility and the highest rate of care for disability living allowance. I have just been in touch via telephone with my IVA provider and explained the awards I have got and what they are for. They have requested a copy of the award notice to be sent to them which I am duly doing so they can let a supervisor look at it. They have told me over the telephone not to worry about this award as it has been made so I can be supervised day and night as I am at risk of harmimg myself not aware of common dangers and at risk of aggressive and anti social behaviour. Also I need somebody with me when I am outside to avoid danger and because I suffer anxiety or panic attacks. I feel at present very uneasy about using the award incase they come back and say it all goes to the IVA. Can anybody give me some advice on this as I am now due my end of year 2 review and I do not want to mess my IVA up. Thanks

Hi Kevin55

You have done the right thing by informing your IP of your award straight away. Given you require the money you have been awarded for your ongoing support I am certain that your IP will not ask you to increase your IVA payments. Have you made any enquiries as to the potential cost of the requirements you have and whether what you have been awarded will cover these?

in the current situation awards of any benefits are being carefully considered and you have demonstrated in your application that your current situation causes you have to have the support mechanisms around you at all times.
I would imagine that your DLA award will be offset against any additional expenditure occurred to ensure the support mechanisms remain in place - however as others have said your IP is the best person to offer you the advice that is right for your case !

Hope it is resolved soon for you and you can then settle into the additional support that you need.

Totally agree with James and Luluj.

The allowance will have to be taken into account but will surely be offset against expenses for the disability.

Hi, Try not to worry. My husband is on the highest DLA and due to the fact I am off work in order to care for him, his DLA is what is keeping us afloat (for basic shopping, etc)- I have been on half pay and go to no pay soon. I am BR and my my OR has been very understanding - my re-payments have been suspended several times due to our circumstances. Take heart from this, you will be treated as a person with needs, I am sure you will keep your DLA.
I hope this helps,
Best wishes,
Chardonnay

I'd certainly look into whatever is going. If you're entitled to it then claim it.
