I've stuck with Petplan for Suzie. Didn't make much difference to the premium so I stayed put.

Harry was with them at first, but they really hiked it up so I left.

I just couldn't be be bothered to change! It doesn't cost a lot more.

I nearly went back to them, but I wasn't impressed with the person I spoke to in customer service - I could barely understand him. I wanted to know whether Harry had to have a dental examination every year, and from what I could just about understand he was saying it wasn't good enough that the vet checks Harry's teeth when he has his jabs, I had to prove I'd paid for a dental exam!

Whether or not that's right I don't know as it was lost in translation, but I wasn't going to take the chance!

Hi, pets are nightmares aren't they. We have two cats - one is an indoor princess but the little lad has taken against the local tom and loses fights on an almost weekly basis. £600 last month on repairs to a leg that was hanging off and steroids for a skin condition that keeps getting infected because of the scratches. We are just now looking into pet insurance for them as The Bruiser is costing a fortune and they are both coming up to six this year - nudging the seniors age range!

I have decided on ongoing insurance as opposed to annual or illness specific, but does anyone have any recommendations about companies? My parents always insured our dog (Golden Retriever) with Pet Plan but I hear they are astronomical now and I don't know of anyone else.

Also while I'm here, we know the local tom is coming into the flat while we are out (no catflap, just leave the kitchen window open). Is there any way we can do to deter him? We had the hose pipe on standby at one point but (a) it didn't frighten him off and (B) I felt mean soaking him in water.

Harry is now insured with Argos, but don't forget that insurers won't cover any existing conditions.

Have to say that I wasn't impressed with their cover for my dog.

Could always try Sainsbury's, they have XX months free at the moment and I think the cover is decent, am thinking of getting cover for our 4 month old Golden Lab (complete loon she is!) never had insurance before for our dogs but after the last couple of years think it may be worth it (other elderly doggy who is almost 14 needs tablets every month at a cost of nearly £50 per month), you never know what is around the corner unfortunately.

I have Sainsburys for the Russel, but they are way too expensive for the other two.

Guess it depends on the age of the pet? either way would have to pay for anything which needed treatment (even if it meant going without food for a week or two!)

The level of cover from Argos was much better than anything else I looked at, including Pet Plan. I went for the Platinum cover.

I wasn't impressed with Sainsburys - although it's lifelong cover, it's only a set amount of money for the life of the pet, it doesn't renew each year.

The problem is they all have their pros and cons!

Will have to have a look at that Skippy, never knew they had a set amount you can claim against over the lifetime of your pet (or member of your family as I like to think : -)

Sounds lovely Heidi, but a bit of a handfull!

Ours can be like that when left to their own devices!

All of mine are with different companies, one is Esure, one Petplan and the other Sainburys.
