I am 35 and have been in an IVA for 1 year, I am 5 months pregnant with first child. Maternity pay is 90%of my wages for 8 weeks and 50%ofwages for 16 weeks which will be £450. per month my IVA payments per month are £300 per month, I have posted my MATB form to my IP they said to continue with tha£300 per month this will be impossible for me what should I do now. thanks

Hi 43h

one possible solution is to see if you can pay weekly which would work out about £70 per week. I was paying monthly but contacted my ip and because I was paid weekly they agreed that i could pay that way.

Hope this helps

I would contact you IP again, make it clear you cannot make the agreed payments during this period and ask for a payment holiday with the missed payments added on at the end. It would be a shame to fail an iva purely by being unrealistic

hi there i think you will find as of 1st of april this year your maternity allowance is now for 39 weeks as opposed to 26 weeks if your baby is due after the 1st of april,

Babies due on or after 1 April 2007

SMP is paid for:
First 6 weeks 90% of your average weekly earnings with no upper limit
Remaining 33 weeks Standard rate or a rate equal to 90% of your average weekly earnings. You will get whichever rate is lower.

The standard rate from April 2007 is £112.75.

hope this helps

Hi again 43h. Do you work in the Public Sector by any chance? Just if that is the case the half pay you are referring to is in addition to SMP. I had my children when I worked for Local Government and found that I lost less than 200 net even on half pay.

hi 43h

If you are finding the IVA payments difficult, I would explain this to your IP and seek a payment holiday to cover you for the period during which you expect to be away from work. A maximum six month period ought to be reasonable, but this is just my personal opinion and you should discuss the matter with your IP who has specialist knowledge of your case.

Hi
How does your Ip expect you to pay the full amount of your IVA if your income falls by 50 percent ??
As Melanie states ask your IP for a six month payment holiday, this can be tagged onto the end of your IVA.
