Hi, I'm with Think Banking and it's great apart from not being able to do online banking (yet?). Quick question - Barclays and the Co-Op were 2 of my creditors, so when I went BR I obviously didn't want to open an account with them only to have them gobble up my salary!!! But once I'm discharged could I open an account with them?? Cheers.

Hi
I have a feeling that they will decline, however once discharged the option of only three banks no longer exists as most should allow a basic account

Thanks Andy, when you say most banks - does this mean as long as they weren't past creditors???

Hi
Yes,I think that if they were past creditors they would decline an account for you,but I'm sure other members will prove me wrong on this.

I read on another forum that someone went BR and managed to open an account with a bank who were one of their creditors...

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Not quite the same but secure homes was a creditor twice on my proposal for seperate loans and they rang me and were so nice asking if I still wanted my account, I said i am in an iva and that they were a creditor and she said that doersnt matter we will still keep your account if you want. I did decline but the offer was there.

Would I be able to keep a bank account with a bank that is not a creditor or overdrawn?

Hi
Yes you would but you must cancel any credit facilities with it if you are going into an IVA or bankrupt

Ha, LOL Honeybunny.... I remember feeling incredulous when my IP first told me I needed to open an account, but musn't have any o/d or other credit facilities...... I'd just spent ages going through the composition of 86k of debt and the thought of ever borrowing again seemed completely insane..... I know I was unbelievably naiave to have got myself into that mess, but theres no way on gods earth I'm ever going to make the same mistake again!!!

Lol honeybunny
You'd be surprised as some people on this forum have managed to run up credit once in an IVA.
