i use think banking which has a maestro card which is accepted almost everywhere, there is a cost of 12.50 for this managed account, per month and an extra 5 per month if you need a card for your partner, i like the account others don't, the cards don't work in services cash machines for some reason tho, the account suits me, there are no credit checks, others may use someone else not sure who else offers a debit card with the basic account the only other one is nationwide i think but its an electron card which lots of places don't accept i think, someone will correct me if i am wrong.

I agree with Kerri I am also with thinkbanking, easy to set up over the phone and no problems at all, really pleased.

Nationwide don't offer accounts to undischarged bankrupts any more - a change of company policy. The only account that I know of with a debit card is the Co-op. I've got this account and I have had no problems so far with the Visa Electron card.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi lisad

We have just applied for the CO-OP Basic Cashminder account. That comes with a cheque book and an Electron card.

Filled the paperwork in (took two mins) then showed some ID. We were told that we would get an answer within a week.

A lot of people have reccomended this bank as they do not charge for the card.

Hope this helps, fingers crossed we get the account.

We applied online for a Natwest account, paperwork came we sent it back and then nothing this was around 3 weeks ago, so I'm assuming we're not getting it! Rang Coop Monday evening, they said yes within a couple of mins, not received anything yet but suspecting that's the postal strike holding things up. Once we get the stuff through I will have wages etc., paid into it as my current account is with my main creditor. Then reset up my direct debits for utility bills and hopefully begin to buget successfully.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Smile Account - part of the Co-Op - opened it online and you get a Visa Debit card withit, also available is a savings account again online with a cash card for a Link machine withdrawal.

Halifax Easy Cash - Visa Electron card

THe smile acccount isn't for those who are on an IVA or BR. To get this you have to open it before the IVA shows up on your credit reference as a 'VA' entry in RED - a default - as in Equifax's database. For basic account opening they will verify your ID, beyond a basic account they look at the credit report looking for defaults.

Good if you can get a 'normal bank account'

A masetro and a solo card is all you need for UK use.

No, I'm actually going to start using it as my main account as the debit card with the Co-op is too much temptation! Please don't tell me yours has been closed...

No news from the CO-OP for me at the mo.

The debit card won't be a temptation for me, I have definately learnt my lesson. I think it will only work if you have the funds to cover.

I must admit though paying by cash is much harder to part with than paying by card.

I think it will be easier for me to be able to purchase on line as alot of deals are cheaper this way.
