Quite a positive reply.

Perhaps more of us should forward these letters when we get them. If the OFT get enough, they might even revoke their licence, and that would be a result!!!

I am sure the OFT would be so deluged under the avalanche of such letters that they would then WANT to do something to stop them. There's power in numbers.

Good for you Greedfighter ... keep at them!

they have significant powers -

just a thought

They are out to make a quick buck from other peoples misfortunes. We on here are savvy to their underhanded ways. A lot of people out there are not. This is what they are banking on.

They really couldn't care less who sees their mail.
I think that judging a company without knowing anything about them is a little unfair. Not all companies are out to make "a quick buck". Unfortunately we live in a country where suspicion and pre judging is all to common, this is understandable but still unfair.
Not ALL finacial companies are "underhanded", alot yes but not ALL. Some companies offer good solutions to serious problems and alot of us need those solutions and are very gratefull to those who help.

I can understand some peoples point about the letters but really, how much do they really matter? I just bin anything I'm not interested in and blimey do I get loads of all sorts of rubbish, lol. If its not for you just bin it. I'm sure that some people are happy to get these mails as it offers a way to help them out of there problems, nothing wrong with doing your homework before you commit to anything with anyone.

Have you had one of these letters? I have. They are being sent to people already on the Insolvency Register - there is no other way they could know that you are in financial difficulty. They intimate that they can help you get out of debt in less than five years, usually in 12 months. This is bankruptcy, and assisted bankruptcy at that which will cost you.

Other than their initial consultation, everything else has a price, and I think that preying on the vulnerable, who will clutch at these sort of letters, is not good.

I won't be changing my opinion of these sorts of firms who are touting for business, and the sooner the register becomes private, the better.

Whats wrong with bankrupcy? For many people this is a solution to there problems.
Going through bankrupcy alone isnt an easy thing for alot of people.
I can as I say sort of understand the letters coming through the door as annoying to some but hey I've got a great bin that works on mine.......

Nothing wrong with bankruptcy at all whoswho, but you can do it yourself if you want, you don't have to pay a company to do it for you. Also, these companies are probably NOT going to get any money back for you as promised in the letter.

Nothing wrong with bankruptcy at all, BUT, you can do by yourself for £495 whereas these firms charge at least double that. If you have a problem with the forms, the CAB will help you fill them in.

You have enough problems paying for stuff anyway without throwing good money after bad, and, like Viki says, it's very doubtful that you will get money back.

I throw most of my junk in the recycling, including the letter I had from xitdebt - they don't bother me, but they do bother some people who have posted on here in the past about them because they are worried. At least we can put them straight.

I cannot, I am on the mailing preference service to stop these kinds of letters, there are others in the house who do not know of my financial status and I would like to keep it that way.

Unfortunately, they get to the post before me, as I am at work and I fear one day them opening a letter addressed by just the surname, I had one once from one of these companies and I was not happy I can tell you.

All I ask is that these companies clean their lists against the Mailing Preference Service file like they are supposed to do, instead of sending these unsolicited items in the post to me. I simply am not interested in BR, I'm way to far down the line of my IVA to even contemplate it anyway and they should know that by looking at the date it was set up.

The sooner this register is taken offline and restricted in terms of marketing and made available only to those people who really need the information the better.

Let's hope they listen to us and agree to make it private.

I dont agree with this kind of mail coming with your name on, as you say others might not know.
I would quite happly see some of the junk I get dissapear but as it just keeps coming then I just keep binning it.........lol.
All I will say to people going bankrupt is beware the 3-10 order. Knowing what I know(which isnt alot) I wouldnt fancy going it alone on a bankrupy, and there must be reputable firms out there to help? Trouble is which ones are reputable? CAB I have always found to be pretty useless but perhaps thats just mine, they can fill the forms out but thats it, wise advise is thin on the ground.
