I contacted all of our creditors at the end of August this year to advise of our current situation and to give authorisation for them to speak to our IVA team. Despite our request to not contact us at home via telephone they are ringing 3-4 times a day with RBS and HSBC being the main perpetrators. I''ve not sent them any token payments yet, waiting for new Bank account cheque book. The phone calls and letters are now starting to really stress us out and I have depression so this isn''t helping. Does this get any easier and how long did it take everyone else to get the IVA accepted and on the road?

Hi
Once your IVA is agreed they will stop, eventually, just be firm but polite and tell them that you are entering into an IVA after taking professional advice.
Have you got your creditors meeting date yet ?
Regards

Helen, we can all sympathise about the phone calls and letters. They won't stop, even though you have asked them too as they have to try and get money out of you.

Don't let them bully you though! If you have caller display you could try ignoring any calls from numbers you don't know, or you could try changing your number.

As Andy says, once your IVA is agreed, they will stop. My IVA took 8 weeks from start to finish, but others have taken longer than that.

You will get there.

thank you both for replying, means a lot. I'll come back down off of the ceiling.

You're in good hands with Melanie.

What you are feeling is entirely natural, we all felt like that.

Keep posting to let us know how you get on, and of course we're always here for support.

I think that we are just waiting for one bit of information for one creditor Helen and then we will be able to put your proposals together. I shall look forward to speaking to you soon, and don't worry too much about the creditors. At then end of the day this pressure will soon be over for you.

Our Andy does scrub up well doesnt he???

Back to the thread, try not to get too stressed about the creditors, just be firm with them on the phone, you are in the process of having an IVA proposed and are therefore not in a position to make any kind of payments. Thats all it takes, some creditors will update their records to not call for a few weeks others will pretend to take notice of what you say then call back 20 minutes later, naming no names.............egg......oops,it slipped out!!!

You really are in the best of hands with Mel and her team so try not to worry(its hard I know),you are moving in the right direction with regards to sorting out your finances, try to keep focussed on that fact.

Good luck!!

Paul.

Helen, just explain you are going down the iva route, advised not to offer token payments, an please stop ringing. then put phone down
you just have to keep repeating yourself
i got good at it, but some days i just could not be bothered to answerphone
some people were really nice, some were down right rude an some just tried to talk over me an were just not listening
once i had a debt collecter (from egg) come to my house. i was out but he left a card with his number on
i rang him back after midnight an gave him a lot of abuse
just venting my anger with him but he never came back
i have been up an down over last 4-5 months as many on here will know, but finally i have a meeting on 29th
tina, ang and mel have been fantastic for me

Hi Helen

The calls really got me down during the set up process and seemed relentless. At first I answered each call, but when it was clear they were not listening to a word I was saying and were going to keep calling regardless - I stopped taking any calls from them. Very rarely did they leave any message, so I just did ignore it all.

Whatever you say to them, they will keep calling and pushing for payments so its a catch 22.

I am with Melanie and recieved so much help from Tina, Melanie and Angela and if I was ever really worried about what a creditor said in a call, I would call Angela and she would offer reassurance that this was all normal.

Hang in there and you will soon be protected from this[:D]
Good luck
Emma

hi - i just wanted to say hi and hang on in there!

it really is a stressful time with all the phonecalls etc but believe me you are nearly there now! once your iva is approved the phonecalls and letters will stop! believe me our phone calls were incessant and the postman had a sack for our address alone each day (slight exaggeration) now his workload has halfed and the only time the phone rings is for our 2 teenage girls mates!

you will be ok and even though things are getting to you, you have a great ip working for you (she is ours too). our iva was approved in april and our lives have changed so much for the better - the stress has gone!

keep yer chin up!

love barb x
