Hi
It costs £495 for BR - of those who have done this - who did you raise the funds?

You can do it by not paying your creditors at all for a couple of months or so and get the money that way.

Or perhaps borrowing the money off a family member or friend.

From my knowledge, as soon as youve made the decision that bankruptcy is the correct debt solution for you, immediately stop making all payments to your unsecured creditors and as kallis says, this should help raise the funds needed for the court costs to petition for your bankruptcy

I would not take money off your cards to do this. I don't think it would go down very well.

And I would also agree that this would not be appropriate.

If you are impecunious some Courts will allow a 50% discount of the fees - check with your local County Court

David - are you referring to people on benefits - or is there some other scheme operated by the Courts which I don't know about? If on benefits, you can save the Court fee of £150 but will still need to pay the rest.

Hi Melanie,

The fees are split as to the Bankruptcy Fee of £345 and Court Fee of £150. I think that if on benefits the Court fee is waived in all or part.

Yes - that is my understanding, and apparently the Courts are quite particular about what benefits they will actually allow as qualifying.
