me again!
im hopefully getting a new bank account tommorow-not for sure!
im worried i should have made contact with an ip regarding commencing an iva but ive been stressing about arranging a new one i didnt think i should ring iva in case i couldnt get a new account
You can make the first contact, it will be 6-8 weeks before a creditors meeting if that is the best route for you. A new bank account will be up and running long before that.

Make the call, you will not be judged, youre in some dark place and feel quite paralysed, I can understand that but this isnt going to go away and it really is up to you to get cracking with it.
Come on, stand strong, do the thing and you will feel a million times better. We felt the same way too once but not anymore, its just a debt, you havent killed anyone or robbed a bank with a gun.
Make that call and do it as soon as you can.
If you were sick you would see a doctor, right? Well if you are in debt you need to speak with an exert.
Fergie, I felt sick about the phone call too, but I was made to feel at ease, not judged and felt instantly relieved. It took me a while to pluck up the courage but I needn't have worried. X Make the call when you can. X
They are not judgemental, they understand exactly where you are at, and will talk you through everything.

The hardest thing was to realise that you have a financial problem and deciding to do something about it.
You have decided to do something about it SO MAKE THAT CALL. You will get a sympathetic hearing from most IP's as they do make a living out of these situations but can only remain in business if they give appropriate and helpful advice. So get on with it and good luck

Dont be worried about that call. I was so scared to do it that in the end hubby telephoned (bear in mind he never makes calls about anything to do with the money) I was put at ease straight away, so nice, understanding, no feeling of being judged. I put the phone down and felt so positive, as if a great weight had been lifted. Yes I had to sort the paperwork out and things but, just to know there was a possible solution made such a difference.
Pick the phone up honey you will be fine.
At the end of the day you have to be in the right frame of mind before you pick up the phone - but as most of the other posters have indicated, you are very likely to feel much better once you have tried.
IPs and their staff are human beings, and have to contend with the same daily things that you do - such as running for the bus, ironing a shirt whilst eating your toast in the morning and juggling the family finances. Because of this, we all understand that things can occasionally go wrong, and we are in this profession because we want to help people like yourself work towards a better future.
Try a couple of different firms to see where you feel most at ease. I think you will make your mind up quickly as to who is going to look after your best interests throughout whatever process you choose - and do remember that when you share a problem, you can find it much easier to then prioritise the important things in life such as family, health and career.
I wish you the very best in your search for a solution, and don't forget to use the forum as a means of support throughout the process.
Make the call asap as it is not nearly as bad as you are thinking. I kept appologising to the person I first spoke to as felt so ashamed at my situation.
Whe i spoke with Tina who is one of Melanies team the feeling of relief was immense. She had me laughing and joking for the first time in months and was so supportive and great. I am sure most people who work in this field are compasionate (or I would hope so!) as they know they are dealing with fragile people.
The bank account will be fine so don't worry about that and contact an ip soon also keep in close contact with the forum as you will find it a support,
look after yourself[:)]

Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....
Hey Fergie
Melanie couldn't have put it better, you have to be in the right frame of mind to make that first call but after that it gets better!
Good luck

Hi Fergie,i know exactly how you are feeling, but as the others have said you will not be judged or made to feel ashamed. When i took the brave step of making that 1st call i was sat on the bed shaking & feeling absolutely terrified,& was convinced that i would be 'told off' for being in so much debt! But,within 1/2 an hour i just felt total & utter relief.I was also told to be proud of myself for being brave & taking the first step to addressing my debt problem. So please don't be scared & take care[:)] xx
