Can you send me details of the loophole on speeding fines please Emma! I have been yet again caught on camera - only two months after getting rid of the six points I already had!
Not too sure on details of said loophole, but was told once (by a local plod) that if i was caught speeding to ask for evidance of the speed gun/camara being within the set calibration requirments and date it was last tested/retest date.
I know Mrs Skint - but points are definately not prizes in my eyes, and hubby will go mad if he finds out! He is a very careful driver - or just gets away with it.
Thanks for the tips Casper - I will bear those in mind!!!
Road Angel is brilliant Skip -wouldn't be without ours.

I always argue with my sat nav and think i know best...........then again i always get lost and no matter where im trying to go, i end up in Runcorn. Why is it that Runcorn is the easiest place in the world to find LOL
i have just got a clean licence again after being caught speeding in hubbys car, tried to act all innocent till he brought home his duties for that day and he was working at the time, so fair cop, i paid up lol
This 'scam' was a big thing when the anti bank charge claim bandwagon got lift off a year ago. I heard about Tesco fanance writing off a 8k debt of a person because the CCA could not be established but the debt still appeared on the credit reference of the person as the Bank would not say it was settled......a catch 22.
Skippy, have a look at the speed camera locators from snooper. I have always had them as they are smaller than road angel.
I drive 50k miles a year for my job and my clean licence is very important for this and it has saved me countless times.
They sent me an email the other day and are doing special 'credit crunch' deals so you may get a bargin[:)]
You buy the unit(mine was £149) and then you wither pay £99 for lifetime updates or £4.99 a month for as long as you want. Its no good unless you do the updates as roadworks and things change all the time.
Dont be like me and leave it in the glove box with anything else as mine was stolen this was with my sat nav.
I now have these sticky pads which attach to the dashboard and you can put the cradle mount onto that so you have no tell tale round mark on your windscreen[;)]
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....
A couple of my work colleagues have had a flyer recently stating that any credit card arrangements signed up pre 2007 could be written off. Whatever the moral issues surrounding this (well stated in this thread) it is entirely understandable that young people struggling (but coping) with their debts should wish to find out more. Both my colleagues have either written, phoned or e-mailed in reply. I strongly advised them against it (they come to me because they think me old, wise and solvent - how wrong can they get!!), but, at the end of the day could not find anything to convince them that they were doing anything wrong. Does anyone know whether these "write off you debt" companies are operating entirely within the law and/or whether their clints (or victims) are likely to be enticed into shelling out sizeable sums of money with little chance of success? I would dearly like some ammunition to help them as these are thoroughly decent, law-abiding young people who have been seduced by the promise of ridding themselves of all their debts in a totally legal manner.
But they have borrowed the money John, presumably with the intention of paying it back, so without knowing whether there has been a change in their financial circumstances which is now putting them in a position where they cannot pay - it it a case that they don't want to?
There may well be a legal loophole which prevents creditors from pursuing these debts - but at the end of the day this is probably going to result in all of us suffering from higher bank charges in the long run.
You are totally right, Melanie and neither of my colleagues are unable to keep up their repayments - they just see it as a legal way to become better off!!. However, if this is a legal loop-hole and is being advertised widely, I suspect a lot of people will take it up which, as you say, could have far-reaching implications for everyone. Many people, for instance, who would never steal think nothing of sneaking a camera through customs (I remember one of my teachers doing this - a catholic priest - and justifying it on complex theological grounds which made little impression on his class). I think many will put this in the same category as avoiding customs.
