In my experience James, there will always be a route to borrowing money if you want to. The fact that you have an adverse credit rating for the six years following your creditors meeting, amy mean that any further credit will cost you a little more, but it is likely to be available nevertheless.

Mortgage lenders and landlords are forgiving when it comes to credit checking, and lots of people event those who are bankrupt or in IVAs manage to find rented property with ease.

Whilst it is important to get support from friends and family throughout the insolvency process, specific advice is best sought from your professional advisors.

Hi James

I just wanted to say youre not alone being so young and in debt a friend of mine was also on the brink of not wanting to go on and she was younger than you. Its a common problem and an awful place to feel alone in. Thank goodness your nieces and newphews brought you away from the edge. You sound like a very good person to me, never forget that, you will make an excellent teacher one day, going through something like this is character building.

Good luck with everything.

Hi James

Just wanted to say that I am a University Lecturer and local Minister ... and having an IVA never in any way negatively affected my professional or social standing :)

This will be an opportunity to take back control of your life ... all the very best for the future.

My Dad was a big Forest supporter, and I am sure will be smiling wherever he is up in the sky with that win yesterday!

Although I'm a United supporter I've always had a soft spot for Forest, mainly because of the late, great Brian Clough. I saw him on TV the other night frog marching an invader off the pitch - they don't make them like that any more!

Cloughie was actually an acquaintance of my Dad, as his business used to carry out a lot of the maintenance at the Forest ground, and he was a real hero of all of our family - having also been involved with Derby County.

They definately threw the mould away when they made him - and more managers like that these days would stop a lot of those primadonna players, which you don't see in a real sport like rugby!

I'm not a rugby or football fan, but it does make me laugh that the rugby players will go out and play in all conditions, whereas the slightest problem with the pitch with footballers and the game is called off!

I agree about footballers, and especially Premiership footballers. I haven't been for ages, but I like watching Staines Town, my local non-league club - now that's real football!

It was unbelievable yesterday I've been a forest fan since i was a nipper and yesterday had to rank up there with one of my favourite football matches.....the atmosphere was incredible.

Brian clough was a football genius! not that us forest fans live in the past....haha.

Thanks again for your advice everyone, not so worried about a mortgage just aty the moment Im back living at home paying rent to my mum, but I would like to think that I could move out at some point in the future.

Has anyne changed job whilst in their IVA do you tend to find questions relating to insolvency?

James x

I don't think that many employers ask questions about insolvency James, I certainly don't when I am interviewing new staff.

It just depends on what job you are going for.

I am not familiar with the crb process, but as this relates to criminal activity I would doubt it.
