We got those calls at work too, so annoying! I pressed the relevant button and got through to someone, who put the phone down when I challenged him.....I really do have to stop being so confrontational [:D]

At home.even though I have subsrcibed to "no cold calls etc" at the start of every month I get international cold calls from a loan company, I just put the receiver on the table and let them carry on [:D][:D]

I have had several of these calls, they request that you press 2 or 9 to speak with someone. They mention 5K of debt and a regular income including from benefits only. I didnt press the requested number as I am thinking that the cost of the call would then be all mine. Its mega wrong, ambulance chasing. Maggotting on people who do not know and are in desperate times, I wonder what they do with people on benefits only?

Probably offer to help them with bankruptcy and charge them a fortune for the priviledge!

As you say Lily, they are preying on people who don't know any better, and are grabbing at anything thrown at them.

Kallis3 thanks for that on Churchwood - it looks as if they have a domain name *name deleted* which also is the domaine for another company - very confusing - will look into it - passing off to try and get traffic out of my firms name.

The issue of cold canvassing from abroad is something that the DRF will look into and added to Agenda of next IVA Standing Committee Meeting

I am sure that they have used that name for a while David - and it is confusing. I always used to get you mixed up with *name deleted*, for which you very firmly ticked me off I seem to recall!

No firm should have to put up with a rival firm passing off - and interestingly when ever I type my own name into Google I persistently get a firm called *name deleted* coming up! Someone once told me that the internet was like the Wild West, and it can be quite difficult to stop this sort of thing.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give a quick update following my initial posting last week. I have spoken with the sister company of Kingsgate that is now dealing with my IVA proposal and have been told it will be at least another four weeks until the meeting date/decision is complete. I also asked regarding the money my husband and I are currently paying and was told that I needed to contact Kingsgate directly to ask as their sister company does not take fee upfront for IVAs'. I contacted Kingsgate this morning and was informed that the first payment made would contribute towards the administration fee, any payment after this would be deducted from the term of my IVA was agreed. The only question I couldn't get a straight answer on is what will happen to the money if the IVA is refused...I guess I will deal with this if and when that day arrives. In short I am feeling slightly better about the whole situation but am still frustrated about the length of time it has taken to get this far. The gentleman I spoke with at the sister company did explain they only got the file on Christmas Eve, I did state that whilst I appreciate this, waiting this amount of time is not acceptable. Refering back to previous posts on this subject, I have not yet been informed who my IP is, I am hoping that things will start moving a little faster now as I am not the kind of person who is pushy.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for your continued support, it is comforting to know other people are or have been in the same situation and have got through it.

What does it say about this "administration fee" in the letter of engagement you received from your IP at the time he/she agreed to act for you? If it is not mentioned, then I am doubtful whether you ought to pay it - or whether it is enforceable - and most IP firms would not seek to charge such fee generally.

Having said that, to move to another firm at this stage would probably take just as long to broker, and you sound as if you want the IVA put together as soon as possible. But do bear in mind that you have to work with these guys for another five years, and the fact that you do not know who your IP is yet is a little concerning.

I wouold be worried about the fact that they won't confirm what will happen to the money should the proposal be rejected. I appreciate that you're not a pushy person, but I would definitely want to know what was happening with the money.

My advice is to seek out a firm of IP's that don't ask for an Administration Fee -there are loads of firms - visit www.iva.com for reviews. In my opinion the delay would be minimal in putting forward a new proposal with a firm who don't charge an admin fee and who can tell you immediately who will the IP be!
