Well today is the day of my creditors meeting in approx 2 hours i will know the the outcome and have taken the day off work as i will not be able to concentrate in there. My stomach is knots .

Anyway sorry i've gone off the subject. I have had a letter from the building society saying that they have been informed of my entering into an IVA and that they need to reassess the value of my house. They have said that i need to pay them £65 for this. Is this correct should i pay for something that i've not requested but that they have decided to do ?
Thank you

I felt the same on the day of my meeting as well. i couldnt stop feeling sick, there was no way i could have gone to work.
Are you with the chelsea? They charged us for a "drive by " valuation. When I said I refused to pay, if they wanted it they could pay for it, they said it would be added to my mortgage anyway, which is what they did. Very unfair when they had valued it a few months before for a remortgage.
Iva finished !

Good luck Devon.

Seems odd to me that the Building Society are valuing - I obtained a current rough value as requested by my prospective IP (which is all you'll get for £65 I should think) just by asking a local Estate Agent to drive by an supply me with one.

I fibbed and said I was considering an overseas job offer, and that I might need to sell the property quick through them if I went ahead.

A valuation letter arrived the next week...

(loads of negative equity as expected)

Yes CJ it is Chelsea and like you i said i didn;t think it was very fair when i hadn't asked for it but they told me it was their policy to do so to protect their interest. Well if it's to protect their interest and not mine then they should pay not me.

Don't think i'll be able to speak when my IP rings Fergiedoggy :-) Have my mobile and home phone glued to me and i know exactly how many tiles we used in the bathroom now as have spent so much time in there :-)

Chelsea look to revalue their security in case they a large potential exposure. However, they are a good building society and until recently were active in the IVA market. Many of our clients used them for their fourth year remortgage as their rates were excellent. I am not sure if they still do it but when it comes around to your remortgage they could be the first port of call.

We're with Chelsea and they did exactly the same with us.

It was a 'drive by' valuation - strange that as no one was seen to drive by (very small cul de sac, so strange cars are spotted easily!).

I wouldn't mind but we had had the house valued 12 months previously so they knew the value wouldn't have gone down.

Strangely, they valued it the same as the IVA valuer!

We have never been in arrears with payments either.

Devon - my meeting was at 10, and i knew the outcome by 10.35. Positive im pleased to say.

I too took the day off work and i tried to take my mind off the meeting by randomly searching things on the internet (in between looking at the clock every few minutes of course), but its too twee of me to try and say 'forget it for a while', cos I know only too well its not that easy. Far better to say that in an hour or so, you will honestly feel better and thats a small price to pay, given , if like me you have waited months

sit tight - the end of the end is very nearly in sight

good luck
