We've had a meeting this morning and been asked to take a voluntary 7% pay cut. I'm going to agree, as I I'd rather have a job at 93% than not have one, but there's no guarantees that this will be enough and their won't be more redundancies.
We had no inkling that this would happen, much the same as when they made 250 or so people redundant across the company in January. Not a good time to be working in electronics.
Sorry for the moan, I know there are people far worse off than me, but I had to have a whinge somewhere!
I do hope that your job remains safe until things pick up. Fingers crossed for you.

Home of electronics -JAPAN.SUMO.
They are now in a worse state than UK and US in the downturn - what's of the lovely Plasma and TV,palm books?? Will there be 2010 models if the 2009 ones don't sell. 3D TV has been invented..what's the point!

I feel for you Skip.
When I go back to work Monday night we also have a meeting. It will probably be to say were all on a 4 day week, or the end of nightshift (20% premium gone). I have already had to stand down from team leader to operator (£130 less a month). Who would want to work in the car industry at the moment!
Hopefully things will change in the world, sooner than later I hope.
My point is to say that the likes of top audio and visual manufacturers aren't able to shift their A listed item goods.Just kike Cars. They sell 80% of what they make to the Outside World. Its how it is with this business. If people go out there to buy then that will be better for the economy. Its people not buying that is the problem....because tax cuts aren't given to us to get another IPOD etc.Look at JJB 90% stock price cut...even I picked uo two Blues shirts for fiver each but not at at 35 quid in Dec 08

But if you're working in the electronics industry and you've just been told about a pay cut, and your job still isn't totally safe, you are feeling bad enough without someone posting posting about the state of that industry.
You want sympathy, not doom and gloom.

It must be the best time ever to buy a product at the moment, just look at Vauxhalls 0% deposit and 0% finance car deals to name but one. I know most people who havent had pay/overtime cuts or redundancy still have the same money but are too frightened to spend it because we have been told to hold on to our cash for the rainy days to come.
I think a lot of this recession has been caused by doom and gloom and by constant media reports of Armageddon. I agree with Noiva that people have to spend to get the economies moving again but when the likes of Neil and Skippy are having their earnings cut it makes it impossible for them to be part of the stimulus. Indeed others whose jobs may currently be safe are afraid to spend in case their company is the next to make cuts which exacerbates the problem.
Hopefully it will turn soon but I think we need the media to help by publishing some good news once in a while. I recently recall a junior minister being slapped down for referring to 'green shoots of recovery' when that is what we need to hear in an effort to restore confidence.
The psyche and mindset of people on buying are now set on 'Scrooge mode'. The Far East have aways been tight wads -a complement not an insult -and they don't spend even now??? The rest of the world have become tight wads OVERNIGHT.Even 0% fianance is still seen to be shabby.
The only thing that is recession proof is xbox and PS3 games, plus Dominos.I am on line 5 hrs a day.... Man there is no pay cut there in that industry.Has anyone played Gears of war 2??? It rocks
Changing jobs to another industry ain't a bad idea. Its an opportunity!!!
We now really value our money like it was printed on the last pieces of paper on Earth. This psyche cannot be reasoned with as it is as private as your lower draws.
