we had a card with mint and tesco both run by rbs and set up our new account with natwest. i dont know whether it was coincidence bit a week after iva on insolvency register our natwest account was frozen and we had to fight to get it open again as they thought we were bankrupt. we were told that although they are not linked and they have the sa,me holding company it still should be ok as we had no debts with natwest. pease be carefull as this only happened 2 weeks ago, we were left with no money until all sorted.

our account was closed on a fri without any prior warning, i tried to access internet on sat am and account was blocked. i went to the cashpoint and said card suspended. went to branch on sat am they could not unblock account, and we hd to wait until mon. all weekend we had no money to buy food etc. mon am husband on phone for 2 hours, they kept saying we were bankrupt and official receiver needed to unfreeze account, we siad had no or as was in iva.. my husband spoke to a suervisor who said that she would look into it. i phoned ip ( mels office) and they rang natwest but they would not help her. on the tues pm thay finally agreed we could use account but downgraded it to step account, i did not mind this and i know it only took 2 days to sort but thet didnt even have the curtesy to tell us account frozen, we needed account open so had to push as my wage was being paid in there
hope this helps

Thank you Cath
That helps a lot, at least they reopened the account so that you could use it. I would rather not change my account again as it would start questions at work (changing accounts twice in one month). If I can argue the facts with the bank I can then at least try to keep my debt problems between my partner and myself. Putting my job at risk is my main worry with it all. There is a light at the end of the tunnel with the debt, five years of good budgeting and an important lesson learnt.
