I would like to ask please if there are any RCs on this forum if so are their PPs supportive and trying to help. The PP in my Parish has got the bit between his teeth and is certainly making his voice heard.

I'm a catholic but have no intention of telling my PP that I am in an IVA. I'm not sure if divine intervention is allowed under the IVA protocol!!!

Well, I am a practising christian and have certainly found more time for god now that I have slogged through paying my debt back.
If you look at the CHristians Against Poverty website they have a lot to say about the desperation that people face when in severe debt, and the ways in which they can go about turning their lives around, as we have all done or are in the process of doing.
I think you would be suprised to note that the popular consensus is that we have all owned up to our problems and we are all doing the right things to try and bring about a resolution, whereby the creditor is repayed what we can afford and we are able to make amends to the best of our ability. I have spoken with C of E clergy very frankly snce completing my IVA, some of whom have been suprised but all who have been empowered, and I am now at the stage where I feel I have enough knowledge of debt (from the wrong side !) to be able to offer other people in similar dire straits advice at least in filling in forms and approaching the right organisations. So I think for you to be judged in this way is very unchrisitian !
! I hate credit cards !

Iwas not talking about Divine Intervention. My PP was an Army Chaplain and came across debt in that job - including coping with a debt suicide. He is making it his business to find out as much as he can about organizations who help people in debt so he can direct people to the right place. He is going to Court with a parishioner on Wednesday hoping to persuade the Judge not to grant an order to make a parishioner bankrupt for he feels his parishioner's problems can be dealt with in another way. 15 houses a week are being repossed in this area - people go to this priest whether they are catholic, cof e or none at all - he does his best for all of them

As debt is still something that people don't talk about, a lot of people aren't going to want to discuss their debt problems with their family and friends, let alone their priests or vicars or other religious figures.

That's very true Skippy. There is no way I could tell anyone I know of my situation. Whilst I am proud of the the fact that we are sorting our debts out to the best of our ability, I really don't want to spread it around.

Yes Skippy you are right- that is what he is trying to overcome whether he will succeed or not I don't know. This PP is not typical of his calling -that is why people go to him. He is well known around here for helping anyone who wants his help - not a bad thing if people trust him. As I said, you are right - no doubt about that.

He only tries to help Lesley - it is the experience he had as an Army Chaplain that makes him do it - if people (of all faiths and none) want him his door is open. I am lucky - I have a family some do not and they have nowhere else to go. I don't wish to offend anyone but he is not a "holy joe" - he is a man in every sense of the word. He trained as a barrister before he became a priest so he is very articulate that can only be helpful to others.

I have to agree with Lesley, I wouldn't tell anyone outside of my home family unit at all.

I get all the help and support I need on here.

I have only told a couple of people about my money troubles and bankruptcy, I was really abused and vilified by my bother and ex-friend for this so I have not told anyone else, not even my parents. I am not religious at all and have never been to church in my life so definitely would not tell anyone about my problems, I have caused enough damage already.

I live next to a Catholic Church and sadly the priest and I don't see eye to eye over a lot of social issues, i.e when they party into the night, drinking and making lots of noise. I wrote to my council and to be fair it's now stopped. He doesn't like me though so doubt he'd listen to me.

So glad your Priest is a friend to you though could restore my faith in the Catholic community as at the minute it's so low because of our Priests attitudes. I had to copy the Bishop into my correspondence for our Priest to take me serious, he has an appalling attitude for a Priest.
