I'm not sure if this is in the relevant section or not, I apologise if it isn't.

Will be going down the DMP route, have commenced payment etc and just waiting to hear back from creditors.

My question is, my sister is getting married in August and I have some friends coming over for the wedding who will then stay a week and be tourists. I am wanting to hire a car so I can show them places of interest etc, just wondering if my poor credit would put a block on this? If so, is there anything I can do now to make sure the car is sorted in time for August?

It is absolutely imperitive that I get a car for August. Living in a small town means there isn't really much to see.

You wouldn't have any problem hiring a car at all, providing yuou can fund it. Some companies just require your licence and Identification and the hire amount in full. Otheres will require a deposit. Your credit rating will have no effect.

Find a car hire company that will accept cash for a deposit and cash for payment - as once in a DMP your credit is damaged for 6 years.

That was a much better way of putting it [:)] But then do hire companies check your credit rating?

Probably not - but need a credit card for that and not sure how Matts is with his credit cards?

There was a poster on here at the weekend who was not able to book a hire car as she had no credit card - they would not accept a debit card.

Well, my credit cards are all maxed out and are what are causing me to enter a DMP.

I do have a business account one from RBS which I could maybe use. That would mean not closing my account with them just yet though as I had intended to.

I started a business account with RBS last August and was told I would receive 12 months free banking, I'd pay no charges whatsoever.

However, they keep trying to charge me £10 for lack of use on the account, despite several phone calls to call centre staff who assured me they'd put a stop to it.

Thanks for the replies as always.

I should add that it won't be me funding the car hire it will be a family member, but they can't drive so I will need to hire it or else there'll be more charges in getting me put on as an extra driver.

I don't know Mrs P. Possibly.

It's been a long time since I have hired a car.

What area of the uk are you Matt? The company I last used several months ago was just a cash thing and required no deposit.

I am in Staffordshire Loneranger. From my search that seems to limit my choices.

Just checked my RBS card and its Solo, I know a lot of firms don't accept that.

Depending where in Staffordshire then the company I used would be ideal but im fairly certain I can't post it on here.
