I am currently looking at arranging an IVA through Moneyexpert.com I have been researching online to see if anyone has any experience in arranging an IVA though them, but I can't seem to find much information.

After an initial phonecall they are due to visit in a couple of days to take it to the next stage. Can anyone help at all? Has anyone here had experience of using Moneyexpert.com to arrange their IVA?

I'm afraid they don't get a very good press on here.

You will find as well that they will do the initial enquiries but will then pass you on to an IP company and charge you for doing so.

It is always advisable to ring more than one company anyway. If you visit www.iva.com you will find a list of companies and reviews. Give one or two a ring and you will get free and impartial advice as to all the options open to you and the best way forward for your circumstances.

Thanks for such a quick reply Jan!

I have asked repeatedly about fees but they said their is no setup fee or charges. Payments are from the government and creditors. However they did say that as the IVA could take 2-3 months to establish, they are asking for monthly payments to go into a Debt Management Plan to keep the creditors at bay. We havent committed to anything yet, their rep is visiting in a couple of days and I want to make sure we ask all the right questions.

I would definitely call a couple of other companies before committing to anything. As Jan says you can have a look at www.iva.com, or else Melanie Giles and David Mond who both post on the forum are highly recommended.

You do not need to go into a DMP while setting up an IVA, and none of our companies will advise you to do that. It can take just as long to set up a DMP, there is no guarantee that the creditors will agree, they don't have to freeze interest or charges and it does not mean that they won't hassle you on the phone.

I don't know where they are coming from with the government helping with the payments. The government and creditors don't pay anything. Your IVA payments will pay a percentage of your debts and fees for your IP.

An IVA on average takes between 6 and 8 weeks.

I would seriously consider using another firm.

Tried them - gave up. I got told the Govt pay all the fees but they did not tell me how or what amount. It did not ring true that the Govt paid. I went to Melanie - everything straight and above board.

Hi and Welcome.[:)]
I go with Jan on this....it is quite acceptable to check out more than one IP, indeed it is advisable.
Its a scary place when you first start this journey, and often we feel any help is a life line. I know I did, but an IVA is a relationship with your chosen IP for 5yrs, make sure you are comfortable with your choice. As Jan has said check out www.iva.com , read the posts and blogs if you haven't already, it will give you a feel for what you are looking for.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I agree its best to shop around a bit. I think what you have been offered by money expert is not as good what you will find elsewhere.

Thank you Jan, Skippy13, elv5, Carole and Paul for your advice. I have already tried the CCCS and of course MoneyExprt, so now following your advice I shall give ClearDebt a try as I see they are recommended and also based near Manchester which is fairly convenient for me.

Thanks
Duncan

Go direct to an IP, Mel appears to be someone worthy on here, not with her myself I fell into the trap and paid upfront charges with Thomas Charles.

But I did not know about these forums at the time and just needed some way out of the mess I was in and they were the first to throw a lifeline.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

I am also with ClearDebt and cannot reccommend David's firm enough. Absolutely everyone I have spoken to has been magnificent and David Mond should be very proud of them all.

You definately do not need to pay into a DMP before an IVA can be put forward for you! What a complete waste of everyone's time, and your money! If the IVA is the right solution, and you provide all of your documents to your IP on a timely basis, it should not take that long to put forward and certainly no three months.

don't the first couple of payments of a dmp stay with the firm setting it up. Looks like money expert are perhaps using the dmp to hide that they are in fact charging fees to refer somebody for an IVA to another company.

It depends upon the policy of the individual firm, but you may have a point.

Yes, I was fine until they mentioned the DMP payment, especially wanting the first payment almost immediately, although no negotiating had been done yet with our creditors!
