It would be interesting if all the call centre staff from all the creditors turned up!

The people who matter know everything they need to know about the meeting.

You could always tell them that it's on a 'need to know basis - and you don't need to know!'[:D]

Hi, I have just had a similar call from MBNA, I have a provisional date for my creditors meeting, but the guy on the phone was insisting that it would be much better to sor out my problems directly with them, than to take out an IVA. I asked if he was free to talk for all my creditors and then he started back pedaling. Its strange that one of my main reasons for waking up and doing somthing about my problems was the fact that MBNA put the interest up from 11.4% to 34.2% and wondered why I was suddenly struggling to pay them. In this climate the goverment should step in and help the little people and not the banks, who, are taking advantage of this resesion.

MBNA called me this week and gave a similar story, saying it is better to be bankrupt than in a IVA. He then went on to say how long 5 years is. I replied yes i know it is, but how long would it take to pay off my account making just the minimum payment as i was. he promply put the phone down.

Just had another call asking my wife to call them. I asked for the call number, and was told that she already had it. [:D]

in some ways, i am starting to enjoy dealing with these clowns. I just can't wait for the next call as i am becoming more and more sarcstic each time.

However, more seriously, i can see how they can affect people and try to make them accept the proposal they want. I know it is hard, but do try to ignore them. As previously stated, they are only call centre staff

I wonder why they would suggest bankruptcy when I am sure in general they would be worse off ?

I would love to know the answer to that question. Something is better than nothing - surely?

that is exactly what I would think, as they would not benefit at all really from bankruptcy so I would have thought they would prefer IVA as they are getting as much back as they can????

I did think that some may be vindictive but Melanie said NO - decisions are made on a commercial basis - she said they look at what gives them the best return - no more no less. If Melanie comes on later she may confirm that.

But surely bankruptcy would only give them the best return if we had lots of assets... if you have none they get 50% of any DI over £100 shared out over all of them I believe.. most IVA's would give them more than that and for a longer period of time..

Of course and anyway if a creditor petitions (a) it would cost them money and for what? and (b) a Judge may not accept it - as happened here a few weeks ago in our local County Court.
