what happens if say someone took out an iva and it all still gets too much and they do themselves in. Is someone else responsible for the debt or will it go down as bankruptcy.

We all hope that scenario never happens!

The persons estate should pay any monies owing to creditors. Otherwise I believe it dies with them.

If anyone is feeling like that about their IVA, they need to speak to their IP about any problems.

They can come on here and talk things through with us as well.

Hi Just wanted to add, that scenario, and those feelings of it all being too much are usually what people feel before they manage the problem. A DMP, IVA or BR are solutions aimed at making the debts manageable and therefore releasing the person from those dark and scary feelings.

The whole process and more so these forums are here to help, and not only with the practical issues. I hope this is a hypothetical situation, if not then please keep posting and keep talking. As BT used to say "it's good to talk" and we always listen.[:)]

sweet mysteries,
Hang on in there, you've had a rotten time but there is always someone to talk to here.
Please, if you haven't done so already, please pick up the phone and talk to an ip about your debts - there is always a solution.
Please keep posting and letting us know how you're doing.

Take care of yourself, that's the most important thing, debt is nothing compared to people.

Sweet, are you in an IVA just now? Are you managing to keep up the payments? Have you anything to lose by going BR?

Forget your debts, they certainly aint worth giving up your life for. Keep talking to us all on here, phone samaritans, phone your priest/vicar or whoever if you are religious. If you dont have a priest or vicar I suppose we will do(I dont particularly believe in anything!!).

Sweet don't think about going to that dark place, I can completely understand those feelings as I weighed up the options before speaking with people, I thought of ways that I could end it all and have the life insurance pay out to cover it all, but the kind words and advice on here, plus my IP company has helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel, although I am only at a draft proposal stage I feel confident that all will turn out well.

I also spoke to my aunt about it all for the first time today after finding out my cousin had no debt just a huge mortgage and she can't find work after being made redundant while on maternity leave, so it was a relief to share that with someone close and receive her support (and my cousins)

The people on here will always listen and give sound advice as they have been in your situation and the experts are brilliant in providing the help they can when you are with a different IP to them.

The things I have learnt during this process is to know your rights about how the creditors are meant to deal with you, ask lots of questions and speak on here when you are having a down day (mine are when I've had lots of calls in a single day!)

I have to admit to not being in church too often myself, but whatever floats your boat.

Have a chat with your IP if you are struggling with your payments. You could perhaps arrange a payment break to allow you to get back on track,or at least get the car fixed.
Was the lady at works death unexpected?

Ahhh, thats terrible. Never seems to happen to mass murderers and rapists but nice people we know and love.
I know its hard but try to put your debts to one side to allow time to grieve properly, you will feel better once you get your head round her death.

I am so sorry to hear your bad news. It rather puts your debt problems into perspective doesn't it - but do seek advice as soon as you can because it will really make you feel better.
