Well had our first letters off Mercers today regarding our debts to Barclays,, gave them a ring telling them our situation & they were very understanding, after reading some of the stories on here regarding Mercers I was bit concerned,, but they just asked how we got into this situation, told them about the downturn at work only get paid for what I do & robbing Peter to pay Paul etc,, anyway they have put everything on hold for 14 days( & can extend that if needed) & if things change to let them know,, they even said that they understand & that things like this happen & not to worry ( I know shock horror !)
So moral to the story is ring your creditors & let them know whats happening.
Mind you after ringing Lloyds & mentioning our proposed IVA it still didnt stop the person trying to cross sell us some life insurance,, I know its unbeleivable,, so some listen,, some dont.
Be a good idea for others to post their experiences with creditors.
Kind Regards, MP

You are very fortunate MP if Mercers were nice to you.

They are usually an absolute pain.

I hope they do leave you alone.

Mercers were by far my most aggressive creditor.

On the other hand, I should thank them really, it was when searching for them on t'internet that I found this site.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Adam,, we are under no illusions regarding Mercers or any other creditor but just had to say what happened. Time will tell regarding the 14 days,, did wonder why they gave my wife 30 days grace & me only 14,, they did say different accounts have different options,, I think he was trying to baffle me with bull s**t.[:D]
Kind Regards, MP

I think that was a load of waffle MP!

It will be interesting to see if they honour the 14 days.

Hi
Mercers contacted me after my IVA was approved and they said they would wait 14 days but a couple of days later they contacted me again and again! Did manage to stop them in the end.

Mercers are one of the worst and most aggressive creditors.

How those people in the call centres live with themselves, I don't know.

MP. Just to give you a heads up, I too called Mercers and they gave me 14 days on all three of my Barclays accounts. However I used to call them every Monday to give them an update. That actually worked and I had a call free xmas and they left me alone most of the time.

They don't actually work Christmas Day or Boxing Day so you're not likely to get calls then.

They would sometimes not call for a few days - obviously trying to lull me into a false sense of security.

Didn't work!

I know they don't work Xmas, but what I negotiated with all my callers was to leave me alone from 23rd Dec to 3rd Jan and I wished them all a happy xmas.
What I was getting at is it does seem to cut the call rate if you call them first.

I think it depends. I had no calls from Mercers between Christmas and New Year, and I hadn't spoken to them at all.

Lombard Direct never contacted me after one initial phone call, and Direct Line never called at all.
