You are right there Jan - at the samaritans where my husband does some work a retired GP is one of the helpers - he fills in the forms for claimants - no refusuals yet- when he analysed the latest forms he found the same question was asked no less than 9 times in different parts of the form! J
DLA awards are dependant on many factors - medical evidence from consultants and GPs is the overriding one; alot get turned down because the decsion makers are unable to interpret what the medics say; however those decisions are more often than not overturned on appeal. Glad your husband has his. Turning to the car- if he has higher rate mobility (and he should if he can't walk more than about 50/60 yards )he should be able to get a mobility car - many without deposit; road tax is free with those. J
I'm glad R got his DLA but I think it's disgusting that you had to fight for it. I'm glad the MacMillan Nurses helped you - they do a fantastic job and should get far more recognition than they do.
Sorry to hear about the car, I hope you can get something sorted out xxx
Ida, the mobility cars are every day family cars - Fiestas, Clios, Yaris etc. Noone knows they are mobility cars - Mobility is just the name of the organization who run the system. Your husband should have had a brochure with the DLA Award - if he gets higher rate mobility that is. J
Ida, that is what I was trying to say - the initial decision makers can only go on the tick boxes - on appeal the papers are referred to a medic - the initial decisions are often refused Ida - but they are more often than not overturned. In the current application form the same question is asked in different ways no less than 9 times - answers are compared - the slightest discrepancy and the claim is rejected. The fault rests with the O and M people who designed the forms.J
In order to qualify for a motability car you need at least 3 years, highest rate mobility component. I agree car is just a thing, more important things to worry about right now.
I hope everything goes alright with the scan on Wednesday.
I have not posted on your thread before, firstly may I congratulate you for your resiliance and courage, you appear a truly amazing woman.
In respect of the "motobility scheme" I can provide some information.
In exchange for your monthly mobility componant of DLA your can approach a car dealer who operates the scheme and have a new car. It works a bit like leasing, they take care of the insurance and servicing. You can usually get a small car without any other contribution. Alternatively you can "top up " your payments to have a larger, higher spec vehicle.
You can also claim free car tax for a mobility vehicle.
You need higher rate mobility component to qualify for the "motobility scheme".
Hope this helps. xxx
7 down 53 to go
The pedal uphill may be hard but remember once you reach the top you can take your feet off and freewheel all the way down!!!
Good luck Ida. I am sure the creditors will be sympathetic.
How is everything apart from that? How is R, yourself and the kids?
