My husband does work for and with the disabled; he does not wish to cause alarm or worry but he has asked me to post that he has had sight of a Green Paper published by the Govt wherein they appear to be proposing changes to AA and DLA - DLA is not mentioned but as AA is in fact DLA for the over 65 years first claimants it is reasonable to assume the Govt intends to include it. The Green Paper is ambiguously worded but it would seem that the idea is to abolish AA and possibly the care part of DLA and hand over responsibility to Local Authorities to assess and then provide physical care. Many of the charities who work with the disabled are concerned; there is a website www.benefits and work.co.uk where some information is given. The point my husband is making is that if DLA is included in IVA income there could be problems if that part is abolished. He has asked if Forum users in IVA and have DLA they write to their MP and, if Labour, ask what the exact intention is and, if Conservative, what their proposals are. The Govt has alledgedly stated that existing claimants will not be affected but can that statement, if true, be believed.?J

AA is Attendance Allowance, and DLA is Disability Living Allowance Ronald, and I think that Elv could have a problem if the Government did abolish all or part of these payments as I am on DLA myself and my IP for example takes 100% of what I receive in DLA towards my IVA - Ouch !!!

My husband feels the Green Paper will fall out of time because of election timing but Teresa May the Conservative shadow Work and Pensions Secretary is a hardliner (he met her when he was a public servant and she a young MP) she has very right wing views on benefits and feels, in his view, that people should provide for themselves. There is no doubt that if the Conservative Party win the next election they will provide a Green Paper of their own in similar fashion because they have not opposed what the GOvt are saying in their Green Paper. She has made some very hard statements about people in debt too. J

I guess the Torys feel able to make these kind of statements as it was not their Government who got the country into ths kind of mess.......unlike the last time circa 1989!

If a source of income had been accounted for at the outset of IVA, and DLA is a source of income so therefore needs to be disclosed, notwithstanding the debate of extra expenditure allowances of course, and that source of income either stops or is reduced then a call to the IP concerned is the first port of call to reassess the situation. That would certainly not be the fault of the debtor and I am sure that IP's and creditors alike would be very sympathetic in those circumstances.

I am very concerned about this I have visited the website www.benifitsandwork.co.uk, you can sign a petition to stop this green paper from being passed, the more people that register the better, even if you are not disabled please support this many people will be affected, I know the government are planning on cuts but to pick on a group of people who may not be able to voice their own opinion is outragous!!!!!!!

Please help stop these cuts

The green paper has been causing concern for some time now. There has been a lot about it on the MS website.
Personally, i doubt it will come into force but who knows?

My husband gets Incapacity Benefit, that plus his occupational pension makes up the payment for his IVA.

He could not manage without that, and if we went BR then we would lose the house, so lets hope it does not come to fruition.

Wouldn't surprise me though as the unelected leader of our country has decided spending cuts have to come into force.
