Hello all, I was looking into doing a spot of ding dong Avon calling to get me and the girls out and about more and also earn a little extra (hopefully)for us and our IP. I am a full time mum (don't work) so I have all the time in the world to do it.
Started looking into how it worked and think I have hit a major stumbling block: Avond give their representatives a credit limit. I believe it is because the orders are not paid for until they are delivered and so the rep has the credit to get the stock ordered for their customers.
I'm not expecting to earn much at all..but every little helps and it would be good to get out and do a load more exercise and meeting people. I feel really gutted that I have hit this stumbling block.
I'd be interested in hearing what the forum IPs and experts thoughts are on this.
At the moment I feel penalised for trying to earn a little extra whileworking around my young children and I'm quite cross!
Completion Certificate received September 2012.

I would check to see what it says in your proposal - if you can have £500 without permission, then you may be ok.

Just to make sure though, speak to DFD and see what they say.

Your IP should have no problem with you doing a little bit of work on the side. If Avon carry out a credit check it may cause a problem or lead to a reduced credit limit but your IP can provide a letter authorising you to obtainm credit. You will need to register with HMRC as self employed and inform your IP of the profits but good luck in your new venture.

I used to be an Avon lady and I would never, ever do it again! I hardly made any money (although I was doing it alongside a full time job) as they changed the commission structure, and I got fed up with wasting my time and petrol to deliver orders worth 75p.

Avon were a nightmare at Christmas as they couldn't deliver stock on time, and I loved the day I told my area manager I'd had enough!

To be honest if you're not working full time it's probably easier, but I've vowed never again!

In the past couple of years we have had three Avon reps, none have stayed the course as they don't get enough orders.

I love their stuff, but I don't order every time and my orders are usually only for about £3/£4 pounds and I know that not everyone in my road has anything.

Thanks, I have been self employed before (I used to run an eBay and online shop) so I know about registering with HMRC and making sure I don't pay the class 2 NIC as I somehow doubt I will be earning enough for that!
Yes, it does say in my proposal up to £500 without their permission is allowed, so should be OK on that front too.

Bear in mind that you can obtain as much credit as you like with the consent of your supervisor so by telling them you do not have to worry if you have a really good month and have to order a lot of stock.

good luck with your new venture Angelrainbow hope it goes well for you, I like Avon products, we don't appear to have a rep around here at present as I don't have a catalogue left.

If you want a catalogue Lesley ring Avon and they should pass the lead onto the nearest rep, even if you don't have one in the area. I used to hate getting those I found that they'd order a load of stuff in their first order, and then hardly anything ever again!

Good luck AR - my daughter used to be an Avon rep but it was more hassle than it was worth. It obviously works for some so give it a shot.

Lesley - I order my Avon online now....there's a delivery charge so a few of us in work place one order and split the delivery costs.

If you order from Avon through Quidco you can get 10% cashback. They often have orders codes for free delivery when you order over a certain amount.

I might start ordering online as it's a hassle having to make sure I'm in for a delivery.

Must admit that my rep is very good at the moment but I'll remember Quidco for when she disappears!

Be careful. I used to be an Area Manager for Avon and my main job was to recruit new representatives. You will be credit checked without doubt. Your first couple of orders will be good because family and friends will support you - after that your earnings could be as little as £30 every three weeks its very labour intensive. If you like the products and are prepared to do it just for that then ok as a wage think again. - From someone who knows.
