Andy,
I believe the housekeeping budget for single person is £195ish. However, what if the single person has his two daughters stay over once during the week and then once every other weekend? Should the budget be extended or would I have to ask the ex for a couple of quid? :)

Kazza - which IP firm are you with? £330 is extremely low, unless this is what you actually spend in which case this is fine - but only works out at £25 per person per week.

And to Jon - your budget should be increased to cover the days when your children stay with you.

Expenditures should definitely be recorded as they are. If the consideration of these identifies expenditure in excess of guidelines and the amount can be qualified, creditors are usually supportive.

In this day and age it is not uncommon for realtionships/marriages to break up of course, and extra reasonable expenditure to cover the cost of having children over is an absolute must.

I am with Cleardebt, and when I asked for a bit extra on this allowance, I was told we had the top allowance for our situation. I was actually told that we had £15 extra the then top alowance. Thats why I didn't push it, as I thought we were getting more then we're allowed and I didn't want to push my luck!!

How strange. The upper allowance under CCCS guidelines for a family of 2 adults and one child is £392. Perhaps Size5 will be able to confirm which guidelines they use. Did you tell them how much you actually spend on shopping, by way of comparison to the allowance?

Hi Melanie

I asked them if I could have £100 a week - which turns out to be only a little over the limit that you have said. I'm not sure what to do now, as I have signed the proposal and the creditors meeting has been adjourned tll monday. If I ask for the allowance to be upped now, won't it change all the figures set out in the IVA and make the return to the creditors less?

It will seem a little odd to change the figures at this stage, and your IP will have to explain the reason for this change to creditors. How much are you going to be paying on a monthly basis to creditors?

An increase in expenditure will result in a reduced disposable income and therefore a reduced return to creditors, but you must not enter into an agreement that you do not believe you can afford to pay from day one! Talk to your IP and explain your reservations about the figures to them - I assume you also did this in the detailed meeting you would have held when the actual terms of your IVA were being agreed, prior to the proposals being presented to creditors. You have chosen a good firm to represent you, and they are sure to want to help.
