Just had a phone call from Sygma Bank (for JJB Card) again (forgot to unplug the phone!) - but this time spoke to a really nice lady. I explained our situation, and told her about the horrible guy I spoke to yesterday - she said he had made no note on their system, and that she would do that immediately. She also said I would continue getting calls unless I made token payments, but was in no way threatening or making me feel like I had to do that, she was really sympathetic - what a refreshing change!! My faith has been temporarily restored!!

Cool, did you tell her you were unable to make token payments? I have done this on the calls that I have recieved from the 2 creditors I have spoken to. I haven't heard from Nationwide again since I spoke to them last week and hopefully I won't hear from Barclaycard again for at least 2 weeks x

Yes, I told her we were unable to make any token payments as we just can't afford it - she seemed fine with that, but just said there was nothing she could do about the phone calls, which obviously isn't her fault - might just leave the phone plugged in to see if they phone again! (must admit starting to get the hang of it now!) - haven't heard from Barclaycard yet - that is yet to come!! x

I know what you mean about getting the hang of it. I'm of the ilk now that I'd rather face up to it than run away and hide and not offer an explaination to them when they phone.

I'm afraid that I ignored the calls and just answered the letters.

I spoke to all of my creditors to let them know what was happening and before we made token payments, they were all really nice and sympathetic. I felt so much better for talking to them. MBNA (yes, MBNA) and Next were lovely and managed to arrange a few months of hugely reduced payments to tide me over whilst sorting out the IVA.. My husband, hasnt spoken to any of his and we ended up having to change the phone number to get them off our backs. In our case, it was worth contacting them, I just said I was phoning to let them know what was going on out of curtiousy which they really did seem to appreciate. Everyone has different ways of dealing with their creditors, do what you feel comfortable with, but personally I recommend giving them a call.

I was really lucky with calls, I managed all my accounts online and before the **** hit the fan I changed all my contact numbers. Never received a single call.

Having said that, I felt for the postman, I had a mountain waiting for me behind the door everyday I came back from from work [:)]

I haven't informed any of the others yet, as our wages were still going into our current account - but our Co-Op account is open now so hoping this month's will go into that. We were worried Barclays would get wind of what we were doing and freeze our account, leaving us unable to withdraw any money, but now the new account's open it doesn't really matter. Am just waiting for a refund though, which should be in the Barclays account by Friday - then all hell will break loose when I tell them what we're doing!! :)

Hi, i dont post on here very often I just wanted to let you know that the worry of telephone calls, family being here when i was getting the calls, my eldest child wondering why i was dodging calls or even answering them and the thought of people knowing at my door demanding money nearly stopped me from going through with my IVA.

MBNA rang but would not speak to me as the debt was with my husband, I offered them a token payment of £5, they were very nice and never rang again, just sent letters (none of them horrible) with a flyer in it advising me to get advice. Northern Rock never rang, just the occasional letter (again very nice) and the letter we received from them when they found out we were going down the IVA road i wanted to frame, it was again very nice!!!! Natwest never rang, just sent out letters (none of which were horrid). Yorkshire Bank were persistantly ringing and when i eventually answered it the lady was lovely when I said that we could not afford to make the payment and advised me that if i paid a token payment (again £5) that she would take me off the telephone loop for a fortnight (I never heard from them again). I hope this helps anybody who is worried, my experience was not bad but I partly think it was down to my fantastic IP and her team (Melanie Giles) who must have kept my creditors informed from the start. Thanks again Mel x

Barclays are one of my creditors, and they didn't freeze the account at all. It's still open. They never offset any money in the account against my debt. The only one who did that was Halifax.

That's really good to know - we've worried for nothing over the last few weeks then!! We've got our overdraft and a personal loan with them - to be honest we've just missed our first payment on the loan, and we've only had one letter up to now (not nasty, just asking us to contact them) x

I had a Barclaycard and they were a pain, but we never had a problem with the bank.

Barclaycard never even voted at my IVA.
