We've been in an IVA for about 3 months now (Thanks Melanie) without any major issues (yet!), anyway I did a few miles in my car for work and as always claimed back the expences.
Unfortunately somebody in our accounts department paid the expenses into my old account (which, due to the overdraft forms part of the IVA).
Is there anyway my old bank would send me this money? Are they obliged to? I don't want to be seen to be prefering one creditor above the others.
Luckily it's not for a massive amount, but every little helps.

Hi spent too much, the very same thing happened to me as our expenses are paid separately to our wages and when I changed accounts I didn't realise I had to tell both departments. I personally didn't bother as it was a minimal amount but ensured with finance any other monies would be paid into my new account.

I'm not sure of the answer but I'm sure someone who will have the answer will be along shortly. Good to hear your IVA is running smoothly.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

The bank should return the money to your employer as that old account should be shut. They can then recredit it to your new account. Tell finance to ask for it back and any problems and Melanie's team should be able to help.

The old account can't have been closed yet as we only noticed the error when we got the statement.
I don't want people at work knowing I'm in an IVA, so don't want to make a big deal about it (I'll just make sure it's right next time!)

Try and get the money refunded directly by the bank, and if they refuse to do this then give me a call and we will see what we can do.

I hope you can get it sorted.

I had an even bigger problem with my company, they actually paid my entire month's wages into the wrong account!! Luckily my company paid me again into the correct account and said they would claim a refund from my old bank - guess what!?! - the old bank refused to refund the money. I was made redundant a few weeks later and negotiated with my former employer that the error was their's and not mine as they had paid me correctly twice previously. They accepted the fault was there's and wrote off the full amount (over 5k)! So ... in my experience banks are not obliged to just hand it back and Barclays (in my case), just wouldn't budge - but hey, we all know what a bunch of clowns that bank are anyway so no surprise.

Hi
If you IVA has started and money is paid into an account that is part of the IVA then that bank must refund the money. They are preferring themselves over your other creditors by keeping this.
I has a similar problem with Lloyds when I was in my own IVA and they refused to refund, a complaint to the Banking Ombudsman brought a quick response and refund from Lloyds, including a smalL ammount for my time spent chasing

I wish I have known this when my IVA started I wrongly assumed it was my error and therefore put it down to experience, it was only for £11 odd I think but every little helps. Hope spent too much gets their money returned, do let us know won't you?

My situation arose prior to the IVA being agreed to Andy.
